I drove past the site of Jerry's old hot dog stand the other day, quite by accident. America being what it is, the building now contains a restaurant that presents a more foreign flavor, but in my mind's eye it was still Jerry's. The hot dogs were great back then, but, hey, this IS Chicago. Those were, however, the best fries I've ever had, and I have had none better since I met Jerry. But that wasn't what made Jerry's the place to eat, however. It WAS the the place to BE, for the proprietor, that bear of a man, with the broad smile of greeting, had a deep and abiding love for all with whom he came in contact. We've lost not just a vendor or a restauranteur, but a real mensch.

I am deeply saddened hearing of the loss of Jerry. He was my boyfriend in my youth for many years. I remember after our date he would call me and we would spend hours on the phone because we never wanted the date to end. He was one of the sweetest, nicest, boys I knew. He made me laugh and always treated me with respect and love.

I sold souvenirs next to Jerry for 20yrs. Though I suffer a great loss in losing a friend, the skies will shine much brighter now that he is in the heavens.

goodbye jerry,
Even though I have spoken about U – we haven't spoken since I was @ left tackle & U were the fullback. If the call was a QF2 or 3, I had to make sure the hole was open, otherwise U would B running up my back - there was no stopping U. Your a/k/a "El Toro" was thoroughly justified. Rest in peace.

I was out of town when I got the sad news about Jerry. I knew Jerry was not well, as we spoke on occasion and I also ran into him at the health club. He worked so hard to stay fit. The last time we spoke was at lunch, when we sat at a table for over two hours talking about old times and new times. I will always remember his soft voice, twinkling eyes and his kindness.
Remember his pea green Volkswagon Bug!!!

To the Manos Family,
I remember Jerry from Bateman, Roosevelt, hot dog shop on Kedzie, and by the Bulls stadium. Jerry always had that big smile and an uplifting attitude. It was a pleasure to know Jerry and I consider him one of the truly good people I have known. May he rest in peace and take pleasure knowing he has left a good mark in this life.

I was so sorry to hear of Jerry's passing. He was my peanut vendor at Wrigley(and a few times at Sox Park) from 1989 to 2006. My wife and I always looked forward to seeing him every Spring when we came to our first game. We have missed him and will always have fond memories of him.

I am saddened at the news of Jerry's passing. Jerry was a stand up guy, and a good friend. The memories of Wrigley, standing on Jerry's corner with Whitey, Paul, and all the other assorted characters that congregated there was somthing else, especially '84! Jerry will be sorely missed.

I went to Bateman and Rossevelt with Jerry. I have not been in contact with him for a long time. I will miss him knowing he has gone to a better place.
Maybe he will get together with all his old and dear friends. I hope so

Dear Manos Family,
I graduated from RHS June, 1956. I knew Jerry from the Albany Park neighborhood, especially at Max Straus Center. My wife and I always enjoyed buying our peanuts and visiting with him outside of Sox Park.I always considered him to be a true gentleman and he will be missed. RIP Jerry - I spent many a day hanging with Jerry at the ballpark. Even bumped into him at the Pita Inn a few times more recently. He always had a smile on his face. I loved being part of the scene at Wrigley with him when he would let a few of us help him sell peanuts on our way in to the park. He loved his winters off in the desert or whereever life took him and then gearing back up to be part of the Wrigley culture and lore. Seeing Jerry at the corner was part of what going to the game was all about. There should be a statue in his honor! Jerry, you will be missed. xoxoox

talk to Jerry. Somehow he was just as important as the game to me. It was a pleasure to have known Jerry and he will be missed by all who knew him

THOUGH THERE WERE YEARS BETWEEN OUR SEEING EACH OTHER,OUR CONVERSATIONS WOULD BEGIN AS THERE WERE NO TIME AND MILES IN BETWEEN.....WE ALWAYS ASKED ABOUT OUR RESPECTIVE LIVES ,FAMILYS ,AND HEALTH.....IF THERE WAS ANYBODY THAT I COULD SHARE BOTH AN INTELLIGENT CONVERSATION AND A LAUGH WITH, IT WAS JERRY...I'M SO SORRY THAT HE'S GONE...I MISS HIM ALREADY...

I knew Jerry Manos as a young boy growing up on Walton Street in Chicago as well as his older brother Alan. We lived near Humbolt Park and played together as young boys. We both moved and ended up in the Albany Park area where we attended Roosevelt High School.
Although Jerry was not a big guy, he was one heck of a football player. I sort of lost contact with him over the years, but would occasionally see him at Jack's Restaurant on Touhy.
He was a funny guy with a neat sense of humor. May he rest in peace.
