Jeanne Garrett Obituary

Garrett, Jeanne L. 87, died August 25, 2010 with her husband by her side at Highland Park Hospital, Highland Park, IL. Jeanne was born on December 17, 1922 in Milwaukee, WI to Anna E. Lucas and Nicholas F. Lucas. Her father was an attorney and municipal judge in West Allis, WI and served as an Assemblyman in the Wisconsin House of Representatives. Her mother was a devoted homemaker for Jeanne's two sisters and brother. Jeanne grew up in West Allis, WI as a dedicated Girl Scout and loved spending summers at a family farm in Paw Paw, MI. She graduated from West Allis Central High School where she met her husband Roscoe Garrett in 1938, eventually marrying him on September 7, 1943. She also attended the University of Wisconsin and served as Secretary to the Dean of Engineering at the University of Maine. She and Roscoe moved to Deerfield, IL in 1958 where she was an active member of the Holy Cross Catholic Church, the Deerfield Women's Club and the Patty Turner Senior Center. Jeanne was a lifelong bridge player, most recently at the Townley Women's Club of Deerfield. She was also an active contributor to dozens of charity organizations including the Covenant House and Father Flanagan's Boys' Home. Above all, she devoted much of her time and energy as a loving daughter, sister, wife, parent and grandparent to her close family. Mrs. Garrett is survived by her husband Roscoe; her sisters Norine and Patricia; her brother Nicholas; her children Scott (Susan), Jack and Paul (Sharon); and her five grandchildren Maria, Brett, Elizabeth, Alison and Benjamin. She was preceded in death by her daughter Sally. A funeral service will be held Saturday, August 28, 2010 at 1:00 pm at Kelley & Spalding Funeral Home, 1787 Deerfield Road, Highland Park, IL.
