Jean Tyson Obituary

Jean Tyson

"What a treasured gift

memory is ~ a wonderful window to a time past."

Born in Salt Lake City, Utah, in 1931, Jean Tyson always enjoyed helping others. A career in education and a lifelong commitment to The Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter Day Saints provided an opportunity for her to spend time sharing knowledge with and learning from the beautiful communities of Tonga and Western Samoa, the Navajo, and Tohono O'odham, which she often described as among her happiest and most rewarding experiences.

Rarely found without a book in hand, nothing brought her more joy in her later years than traveling the world through literature, and experiencing it through new eyes each time. Whether the subject be fiction or non-fiction, fantasy or history, she loved to discuss her literary adventures with fellow inquiring minds. Her passion for knowledge, history, and genealogy also led her to become an active Daughters of Utah Pioneers member.

Just as with books, her taste in other forms of media and art was wide-ranging. From stop-motion sheep to British detectives, she loved great storytelling in all forms and for all ages. She also loved music, and spent many years as the church organist.

Her thoughtfulness and mirth never ceased to bring warmth to those around her, and her bold, quick-witted humor always left them grinning.

After spending the last 20 years in the Seattle area, Sister Tyson passed away peacefully on Friday, August 11, 2017. She is survived by her sister DeAnne Crowe and her family, daughter Jeanie, son-in-law Presley, and three grandchildren, Stephanie, Andre, and Sean. A private ceremony will be held.

I am so saddened to hear of Jean's death. I have never met a more positive, lovely person. How I will miss our e-mails to each other! At the same time I rejoice for her "graduation." I can see her in my mind's eye, singing and dancing and smiling with all her might. Glad to call her family, even if remotely. Glad we had one happy opportunity to finally meet and cement our mutual appreciation. We are kindred spirits and I will look forward to a warm embrace when it is my time to join her.

I was blessed to be able to provide rides to church for Sister Tyson. I would pick her up in my convertible mustang and she would be tickled pink. Hardly being able to see over the door frame, she loved the top down and the drive to church. She was an awesome lady, I was sad when she moved,I'm sad/happy now, as I know she is roasting them on the other side of the Veil. I will miss her, but I know I will see her again.

Thank you,
Dale
