To Jean's family,

Jean was a vibrant and enthusiastic woman who instilled in me a love for detail and composition. I learned a great deal from her as her intern three summers ago and I will never forget her kindness and encouragement.

To the Moss Family,

I did not know Jean but my mother was used as a model a few times before she started having Alzheimer symptoms. However, I remember my mom telling me how nice Jean was to her and always had her attend castings at her studio on Grand. I am very sorry to hear about her passing and I am sure my mother would feel the same way.

Our deepest condolences,

Patti Sugano (for Ann Sugano)

To the Moss family,

The first of you to touch my life profoundly has gone. I was looking for the obituary of a cousin and saw the notice of Jean's passing; I was shocked and saddened and my heart sank.

I first met Jean when she was a senior and I a freshman in high school. I watched her theatrical performances in the school plays with awe. She was always kind, unassuming and sweet -- besides being exceptionally talented. Her smile lit up the day and her words were always encouraging.

Several years ago, I had the pleasure of talking to her when I tried to get an association I was working for to use her photo talents. We had a great talk on the phone and discussed a rendezvous, but life got busy for us both and it never came to be.

Having worked also with Fern and (moreso) with Murray, your family became a very special part of me. I often think of all of you. I grieve your loss with you. Jean was too young . . . My heart goes out to you all.

Sincerest condolences,

I knew from the first moment I met Jean in high school that she was a special and gifted human being. We bonded immediately. I can still see her smile and feel her larger than life personality. I am devastated at the news of her death. I saw her several years ago in a chance meeting at a restaurant and our warmth and excitement to see one another after 25 years since high school was mutual. I am honored to have known such a true original.

Jean was funny and vibrant and full of life. She was a truly original photographer. Her pictures were infused with humor and insight. Though it saddens me deeply to learn that she is no longer with us, her spirit will live on with all of us who knew and loved her.

It is almost impossible to say "Jean was...." Jean's unique relationship to life and those who were lucky enough to know her will always be somehow present. I am heartbroken though that she no longer walks this earth and my deepest sympathies go to everyone in her family.

Joyce and Glenn Grossman extend their profound sympathies to the Weintraubs and the Moss family. Jean was a woman who made an indelible, positive impression on people. I will always remember Jeannie's vitality when she came to visit Fern at the University of Wisconsin. We ate boston creme pie at a restaurant, and Jean was the prettiest, most vibrant person in the room (except for Fern, of course). We love you Fern, and Glenn and I wish we could be with you.

Jean hired me for one of my first jobs in Chicago and was always one of my biggest champions. She was an amazing and fiercely smart woman. She will be missed. My condolences to her family.

Your vibrant, complex and larger-than-life personality will be sorely missed here on earth. But I know you'll shine on from above.
