Jean Molnar Obituary

Molnar, Jean T. (nee Malooly) Age 88. Beloved wife of 58 years to the late Robert J. "Bob" Molnar; loving mother of Janice (Peter Derrick), Mary, Anne, and Jerry (Cecilia Villar); sweet Mee-Mee to Mikayla and Danica Molnar; devoted daughter of the late James A. and the late Mae Malooly; dear sister to the late Mary Janet (the late John) McKeon and James J. (the late Marilynn) Malooly; and fond aunt and cherished friend to many. A deeply spiritual person, Jean lived her faith through ceaseless devotion to church and community. A parishioner for 60 years in Most Holy Redeemer parish, she was a longtime Eucharistic Minister, Liturgy Team member, Bereavement Committee member, and Installing Officer of the Women's Guild. She also served in the Pastoral Care Programs at Christ Hospital and Little Company of Mary Hospital. She was named Woman of the Year by the Archdiocesan Council of Catholic Women in 1993 and honored by the Archdiocese of Chicago with the Christifideles Award for her "service in the life of the Church" in 2011. Jean was also a tireless volunteer in the community. She served as President of the Mothers' Clubs at Mother McAuley High School and Brother Rice High School, where she led many committees and mentored others to take on leadership roles. She was an involved member of Ridge Country Club, where she served as President of The Women's Auxiliary in 1991-92 and was an avid 9-Hole golfer. And she touched many lives as a volunteer with the blind veterans at Hines VA Hospital. Jean loved college life at St. Mary's College in Notre Dame, IN, where she majored in theology and was President of the Junior Class. It's also where she met Bob, a proud Domer. Jean will be missed by all who knew and loved her. Her friendship with her neighbor of almost 61 years, Sybil Garver, was one of a kind, never to be duplicated. A special thank you to her wonderful caregiver, Vanessa. Visitation will be held from 3:00-9:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 28, 2017 at Thompson and Kuenster Funeral Home, 5570 W. 95th Street, Oak Lawn, IL 60453. Friends and family will meet for a Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday, March 29, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at Most Holy Redeemer Church, 9535 S. Lawndale Ave., Evergreen Park, IL 60805. Interment Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. Donations may be made to the Ann and Robert J. Lurie Children's Hospital Chicago Foundation, 225 E. For me your mother was/is Miss Malooly, my third grade teacher at St Barnabas. Living at 99th and Hamilton Ave. many days on my way to school after lunch I would stop at her parents' home on Hoyne Ave., ring the doorbell, and be invited in to wait for my teacher, sitting on the hall's round divan. It was such a treat for an 8-year-old to be treated with such courtesy, at the same time, then privileged to walk with her to school. Your mother was an excellent caring teacher who made being in school a joy for me....quite an accomplishment for a young teacher working with a rebellious student! My fond memories of your mother (Miss Malooly) continue.
