James Simpson Obituary

James W. Simpson Beloved father and grandfather Canandaigua - James W. Simpson, age 83, died Wednesday, Feb. 3, 2010, at M.M. Ewing Continuing Care Center. He is survived by three sons, W. Scott (Cheryl) Simpson of Canandaigua, Thomas J. (Kathy) Simpson of Ohio and Robert L. Simpson of Canandaigua; nine grandchildren, Sarah, Brooke, Courtney, James, Melissa, Stacy, Susan, Laura and Peter; great-grandchildren; sister, Jean (Ray) Conner of Texas; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Elizabeth (Luther) Simpson, in 2004. Mr. Simpson was born in Grove City, Pa. and raised in Ellwood City, Pa. He was a graduate of Ellwood City High School. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II and served in the European theater. Mr. Simpson earned a bachelor's degree from Westminster University in Pennsylvania and a master's degree from the University of Pittsburgh. He worked in the steel industry his entire career. Mr. Simpson was a member of United Church of Canandaigua, Canandaigua Country Club and the Free and Accepted Masons. He enjoyed golfing and woodworking. Mr. Simpson was formerly of Deerfield Drive and Ferris Hills in Canandaigua. Friends may call tomorrow (Saturday) from 3 to 6 p.m. at Johnson-Kennedy Funeral Home Inc., 47 N. Main St., Canandaigua. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at United Church, 11 Gibson St., Canandaigua. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer's Association, 435 E. Henrietta Road, Rochester, NY 14620. Condolences may be offered at www.johnsonkennedy.com.
