Gillespie, James F., S.F.O. 69, of Naples, FL., died Friday, December 12, 2002. A former resident of Chicago, IL. he had resided in Naples since 1992. He was born October 12, 1934 in Chicago, IL., a son of the late Lester and Mary (nee Fox) Gillespie. James was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church and was a proud member of the Secular Franciscan Order. He was a Veteran of the Korean War having sercved four years with the United States Marine Corps. Mr. Gillespie retired as the Deputy Chief of the Evanston Police Department where he served 33 proud years from 1957 to 1990. He was the loving husband of Carol J. (nee Mangin) Gillespie of Naples, FL; loving father of Kathleen (Douglas) Berg of Woodlawn, TX, James (Teresa) Gillespie, C.P.D. of Chicago, IL. and Michael Gillespie also of Chicago, IL; loving and proud grandpa to 21 grandchildren, dear brother of Thomas (Barbara) Gillespie of Rolling Meadows, IL. and Nancy (William) Gipple fo Garden Grove, CA., fond uncle to many nieces and nephews, loving step-father of Michael (Maureen) Mangin of Tinley Park, IL., Thomas (Eileen) Mangin of Tinley Park, IL., Patrick (Chris) Mangin of Frankfort, IL, Timothy Mangin of Naples, FL and Colleen (Gordon) Walters of Rayville, LA. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary (nee Ridyard) Gillespie and his brother, Michael Gillespie. The family will receive friends Thursday, December 18, 2003 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Walter Shikany's Bonita Funeral Home, 28300 Tamiami Tr. So., Bonita Springs, FL. Catholic Scripture Services will be held at 7:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, December 19, 2003, 10 a.m., at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Naples, FL. In lieu of flowers, donations in his name may be sent to The Poor Clare's at San Damiano Monastery of St. Clare, 6029 Estero Blvd., Ft. James Gillespie came into my life 11 years ago. I could not have picked such a wonderful step father!. He was always honest with me and my four siblings and I will always love him for that. He will be missed terribly.

I worked with Jim where he was a Sgt., then Lt., then Captain and finally Deputy Chief of Police in Evanston. I have always like Jim and think is a wonderful guy. I also knew and worked with his brother Michael.
