JAMES EMERSON Obituary
He is the son of the late James T. and Bessie Emerson, and is also preceded in death by seven sisters, Alice Emerson, Nellie Berry, Elva Cox, Fanny Bailey, Mary Emerson, Annie Allgood and Mary Wray; five brothers, Henry, Glenn and John Emerson, and Robert and Ira Crowder.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 63 years, Lillian Emerson; son, James Emerson Jr.; three daughters, Julie Gerhart (Herbert), Yvonne Goodman (John) and Patricia "Patty" Talley (John); grandchildren, Christine Brown (Jimmy), Shelby Emerson, John D. Goodman Jr., Julie Rebecca "Becka" Goodman, John Mason Talley (Tanya), James B. and Megan Emerson; three very special great-grandchildren, Caroline Franchock, Emerson Talley and Zachary Brown; three sisters, Myrtle Casey (Jack), Eva Riddle and Patty Hughes; two brothers, George Emerson Sr. (Mildred) and Edward Emerson (Bertha); two dear sister-in-laws, Margie Emerson and Helen Goode.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, July 2, 2012, at the Hopewell Chapel of J.T Morriss & Son Funeral Home and Cremation Service. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 3, 2012, at the funeral home. Interment to follow at Bermuda Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to VCU Massey Cancer Research Center, 401 College St., P.O. Box 980037, Richmond, VA 23298-0037, in honor of Dr. John Roberts and in memory of James Emerson Sr. Condolences may be registered at www.jtmorriss.com.

Dear Mrs. Emerson and family,
My heart goes out to you all during this emotional and sad time.I just wanted to let you know you are in our prayers . Mr.Emerson always made me smile whenever I would talk to him.I am grateful for the opportunity to have talked with him in May and give him a hug!May God continue to give you comfort during this time.

Yvonne and John,
I am sorry to learn of the death of Yvonne's father. I remember seeing him a couple of times for some small issues that he had. He seemed like a great guy.
