My dear Jimmy, not a day goes by that I do not talk to you miss you or think of you ! Sometimes I still can't believe your not here with us. I love and miss you everyday. Thank you for watching over us and you will never be forgotten. Me and the kids love you miss you and your always with us. It's almost been 10 years and I still have a hard time accepting it. You will always be my husband xoxo

January 27, 2011

It has been almost a year since you went home to heaven. Our hearts still ache and the tears still flow but we know you are happy and at peace. As time goes on we realize that you are watching over all of us and helping us to continue with our lives until we meet again. You are a part of who we were, who we are today, and who we will be in the years to come. You are forever in our hearts. All my love, Mom

Thank you Jimmy for these words of wisdom back in 1995. "TO BE UPSET OVER WHAT YOU DON'T HAVE IS TO FORGET WHAT YOU DO HAVE AND WHAT YOU CAN DO FOR OTHERS".

April 26, 2010

I had just reconnected with Jim a few months back and was looking forward to a planned visit this summer for Craig's memorial golf tournament.

The Marini family has never forgotten the love and support Jim and the Dougherty family provided my brother and the news of his passing was hard to accept.

He will most certainly be missed.

It is with great sorry that we send along out sympathies to the Dougherty family. We know how terrible it is to lose a son. Jim's family took Craig in when he needed a place to stay in his early Chicago years. Jim was a great friend to our son; and we will never forget him or his family. God rest his soul in peace. May he be with Craig (and Oak) in heaven for all eternity.

To the Dougherty Family,
I am so sorry to hear about Jim-it is such a loss to all those who knew him. I went to St.Mary's with him and will miss him dearly. He was a walking contradiction-strong and tough but kind and sweet. He was a person of substance and I feel fortunate to have known him.

There is no condolence that I can offer that sounds adequate but please know that those who knew him knew he was something special.

My prayers and thoughts are with all of you.

Let me start by saying Jim was not just my brother-in-law he was a brother to me as well as a second father to my son Mike. Jim was a man of his word, and I never doubted this, ever! Jim helped me coach T-ball when Mike was playing and that was the time he became Mike's second father. Jim was a great father to his own children and he always knew they were the LOVE of his huge heart. That's the way it is when your children come into this world, everything takes a backseat to your children. This is not about Mike, it's about the Love, Relationship, Guidance that Jim showed Mike as he got older and his college career began. Jim went to college and he made damn sure Mike would stay on the right path. The countless times I called Jim when Mike was a freshman wanting to quit school, here came Jim to bail me out and talk to Mike for hours. It paid off! Mike now a junior loves school and the new people he has met there. Jim always told him they will become your close friends. He was tough on Mike, and this undoubtley saved Mike's college career. He always found the time to text Mike after games, take him to games (the driving was crazy). Forever I will be grateful to Jim!!!! I make this promise to all. I will always be there for Alex and Mckenzie, as Jim was for Mike. I will miss him, however the memories I have will never ever go away.

To the entire Dougherty Family:
It's been many years since I last seen Jimmy. However, when I would see his sister Sharon she would always update me on how well her mom, sisters and brothers were doing. I am sorry I could not express my sympathy in person, but know that my thoughts and prayers are with you all. I have fond memories hanging around the Dougherty house while growing up in Alsip. He will be in our hearts and memories forever.

Dougherty family,

Jimmy will forever be a guardian angel to you and your family.

I was so saddened by this news. Jimmy ALWAYS had a smile on his face back at St. Mary's, was a great guy, and always made the people around him comfortable.

He will be greatly missed by many.

Prayers will be with you and the entire family this Easter season.

I am at a total loss of words hearing about Jim's death. I have not seen him in many years, though he lived just a couple blocks away. Our families were friends and I will keep you all in my thoughts and prayers. Rest in Peace Jimmy!

I coached Jimmy for 4 years at St. Laurence. He was a confident player and was a great person to have on the team. As a defensemen who liked to score goals he gave me a few gray hairs as he used to carry the puck a lot but he was such a skilled player!

My prayers and thoughts are with his entire family. I am very sorry for your loss.

To The Dear Dougherty Family,
I have this picture of Jimmy with his Badgers Uniform on and those eyes and that crooked grin with his hair sticking out of his hat in my mind. What a Friend to me he was. 8th Grade, I barely ever saw him after that. No matter. He was always dear to my heart. I never had friends like that again, simple, easy, true, who does? My Prayers are with you all.
Thank you Jimmy.

March 30, 2010

my neighbor, my friend-
Growing up 2 doors down from the family there are a lifetime of memories with Jim. Remembering the worn out grass in their front yard from running the bases as we played baseball into the night and playing catch over the street light in front of our house. Even when we were older, playing cards with Jim and John or sharing laughs on the weekends at Reiley's. My heart aches for his family and all his friends, which I know are many. This great guy will really be missed.
