Metropulos, Irene C. (nee Mays), age 90, beloved wife of the late Christ, was surrounded by family when she was called home to Heaven on November 15. Irene's heart and soul lay in her dedication to her family, her friends and her church. She was a founding member of St. John's Greek Orthodox Church in Des Plaines and continued her spiritual devotion as a choir member, organist and Philoptochos member. She will be remembered not only for creating a home filled with love and music, but for filling that home with the smells of her unforgettable cooking and the sounds of laughter. She was happiest when with her family whether playing Scrabble, golf or bowling, (having thrown two games on her 90th Birthday). She had a gift for making each member of her family feel as though he or she was the most treasured. After 20 years of retirement in Florida, she and Christ divided their time between family in South Park, PA and Mokena, IL. Irene was a cherished and devoted mother to Nick, Esther (Bob) Dieringer, Dean (Arlene), Christine and the late Thomas, a loving grandmother to Chris (Kelli-Ann), Rose (Robert) Ashby, Nicole, Jim (Laura) Dieringer, Cindy Dieringer, Dr. Robert Dieringer, Ralph (Halina Granat) Dieringer, Michael (Wilda), Denise (Brian) Murray, Mark and Deanna, a loving Yia Yia to 19 great-grandchildren, Alexandra, Nicholas, Tommy, Gracie, Joey, Bobby, Amanda, Ryan, Morghan, Michael, Johnny, Vicki, Veronica, Michayla, Meredith, Dena, Alicia, Stephanie, Brianna and a special aunt and great-aunt to many nieces and nephews. Family will receive friends at the Kurtz Memorial Chapel, 102 E. Francis Rd., New Lenox, on Saturday, November 19, 5 to 8 p.m. and Sunday, November 20th, 2 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be on Monday, November 21st, 11 a.m., at Saints Constatine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church, 11025 S. Roberts Rd., Palos Hills, IL. Interment Elmwood Cemetery, River Grove, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Harmony Hospice, 393 Vanadium, Suite 202, Pittsburgh, PA, 15243, would be appreciated. Aunt Irene was a wonderful woman, so caring and nurturing. Her husband and her family were her life. Spero told stories of his time with her, when he was young. She held special place in his heart. The Spero Xanos family remembers Aunt Irene with love and we send our deepest sympathy to the whole Metropulos family. We share your loss.

Cindy and family,
I know how much Gram (Yia-Yia) will be missed by her family and friends. I loved when she came with your mom to the restaurant to eat and I was able to visit with her. I will always remember her sweet smile and her kind words to anyone she would meet. She reminded me so much of my own grandmother, whom I still miss so terribly. My love and prayers are with you my dear friend and your whole family. Know that your Gram is now with her loving husband and that they are both your angels in heaven watching over you.
