Irene Holling Obituary

Irene Louise Holling Beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Irene L. Holling died July 25, 2005 in Antioch at the age of 87. She was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley Lawrence Holling, and two brothers, Sam Lucciola and Joseph Lucciola. Irene was born and raised in Canonsburg, PA and lived in Illinois and Indiana before moving with her family to Antioch in 1953. She joined Kaiser Permanente in 1954, shortly after Kaiser came to Pittsburg. She started in the laboratory doing unskilled labor and ended her career 25 years later as the main switchboard operator at the Antioch Clinic. In retirement she volunteered at the Antioch Senior Center and also helped start the volunteers at the Antioch Kaiser Clinic. She was a volunteer at Kaiser for ten years. Irene was a longtime member of the Sons of Italy and Corresponding Secretary for the Senior Citizen Committee on Aging. She was also a member of her neighborhood Rosary Prayer Group. Until her illness she filled her days visiting with friends, cooking for herself, friends and family, and making crocheted throws for family and charity. For four years in a row Irene crocheted ten crib-sized blankets for Valley Stitchers Guild for their gift layettes charity. Irene is survived by her two daughters, Patricia Haas of Antioch and Helen Marie Capps of Fairfield; grandchildren, Larry Haas of Woodland, Walter Haas of Antioch, Alan Capps of Sacramento and David Capps of Redding; and two great-grandchildren, Jacob and Alex Haas of Antioch. Family and friends are invited to visitation at Higgins Funeral Chapel in Antioch on Tuesday, August 2, 2005, from 9am-1pm. Funeral service will be held at 1pm. Memorial contributions on Irene's behalf may be made to the American Cancer Society or Hospice of Contra Costa in Concord.
