Family-Placed Obituary

GILPIN, Ira 80, of Springfield died Saturday, March 11, 2006 in his residence. He was born in Lee County, Virginia on June 29, 1925, the son of Garrett and Ora (Wells) Gilpin. Ira was a Deacon and member of Springfield Missionary Baptist Church. He retired from Monte Zinn Chevrolet as an auto mechanic. Ira was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters and one brother. His survivors include his wife of 58 years Edna (Brooks) Gilpin whom he married September 20, 1947; one son and daughter-in-law, Dwight & Debra Gilpin of Plain City, Ohio; one daughter and son-in-law, Diane & Howard Applin of Springfield; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Tilman & Jessie Gilpin of Uniontown and J.C. & Jewell Gilpin of Harrogate, Tennessee; three sisters, Susie Wright and Josie Nolan both of Springfield and Irene Craig of Pathfork, Kentucky; three grandchildren, Jason & Aaron Engle and Garrett Gilpin; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Friends and family may call Monday from 5-8 p.m. in the RICHARDS, RAFF & DUNBAR MEMORIAL HOME. A celebration of Ira's life will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. in the Springfield Missionary Baptist Church, 2650 Hilldale Road with Rev. James Reed officiating. Burial to follow in Rose Hill Burial Park. So sorry to hear about Ira. He was a good and kind person and very good to the Dalton Family and also to Bob's mother in the nursing home.

I was sorry to hear of Ira's passing I know you will miss him. He and my Dad worked together at Wade-Walsh Chev for many years and I remember him well. He was always such a nice person. Please accept my sympathy.
