Hughes Stroupe Obituary

STROUPE, Hughes HENDERSONVILLE - Mr. Hughes Warren Stroupe, husband of Pauline Woods Stroupe, died Sunday morning at his residence in Hendersonville. He was 89. Mr. Stroupe was born in Beaufort County June 14, 1917, a son of the late Oscar Alexander Stroupe and Mary Ellen Leach Stroupe. He was a veteran of World War II, and lived most of his adult life in Colleton County. He was an independent grocer in Walterboro for retirement, he enjoyed farming and other hobbies. A former member of Black Creek Baptist Church, he was a member of the First Baptist Church in Walterboro at the time of his death, where he attended the F.B. Thomas Sunday School Class. Surviving, besides his wife of 69 years are one daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and John D. Elliott, of Mt. Pleasant. There are three granddaughters, Gwen Elliott Wise, and husband Matthew, of Greenville, Monica Elliott Hudgens, and husband Dr. Edward Hudgens of Mt. Pleasant, and Johnna Elliott Feild, and husband Martin, of Atlanta. There are eight great-grandchildren, Parker, Jackson, and Julianne Wise, Annie and Courtney Hudgens, and Tyler, Samantha, and Sarah Feild. Mr. Stroupe is also survived by his sister, Frances Stroupe Strickland, of Wilmington, NC, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Ernest Alexander Stroupe Sr., and Gregory Elliott Stroupe, as well as a sister, Olive Stroupe Woods. Funeral services will be held Thursday morning at 11:00 in the Chapel of Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home, will committal services following in the Black Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. Members of the F.B. Thomas Sunday School Class will serve as honorary pallbearers. Visitation will be held Wednesday evening from 6-8 PM at the funeral home. Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made the First Baptist Church of Walterboro. PARKER-RHODEN FUNERAL HOME, 117 Paul Street in Walterboro, is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Stroupe,
I hate to see you leave but happy that i know that you are now with the Lord happy and free of pain. You have brought much happiness in so many peoples lives and that goes without saying. I will miss you coming into the office, your jokes, you laughter and love you always brought. God bless you, Mrs. Stroupe and all of your family.
