I just discovered that my beloved teacher has passed.
Mr. Walchak was instrumental on me becoming a doctor/surgeon.I had no clue what I wanted to be. He took this young girl, who had no friends, who was totally lost, and motivated her to become something in her life. I idolized Mr. WALCHAK....He was kind, and gave me direction.
I will never, ever forget this gentle soul. May he rest in peace.
He will always have a place in my heart...Always.

Recollections of Howard have often come to me while taking care of the garden. I remember how he would attend to plants in any situation with utmost nurturance providing an inspiring example. When I visited his Biology lab at Senn, I found a good stock of live snakes and frogs provided to motivate his students’ study. His tender care for nature extended beyond the classroom in many ways—especially to family and friends. He worked hard to beautify the school grounds and I fondly recall a trip with him to the nature trails along the Indiana Dunes. His sense of frugality proved to be well connected to environmental concerns—as we took the Southshore train there—a possibility that would not have occurred to me (on my own).

Mrs. Walchak--
Though we haven't been in touch for many years, since you were my math teacher at ICJA, I still have find memories of you and your husband when I babysat for your children. I am so sorry to hear of his passing.

My heart sank when I learned of Howard's death. We shared many good times together. He was my comrade-in-arms teaching in adjacent classrooms at Senn High for many years. We shared happy experiences in trips to his buildings, family celebrations, and
teacher in-service meetings.
May he rest in peace. Be consoled by the knowledge he is freed from confusion and distress. I will remember him in my prayers.
