Herb you will be missed. Your irrepessible sense of humor along with your unfailing instinct to push and give time to support the progressive agenda. You and Bobby did have a neat relstionship and I know you did miss her. Thank you for sharing your time and energy with me when I was in Chicago.

My Mother, Rhita, and my late Father, Chuck, were friends of the family, and my mother brought Herbert's death notice to my attention. The attribution of death to a broken heart upon losing his beloved wife and a broken spirit arising from the results of the presidential election is the most touching and tragic thing that I have read, and it brings tears to my eyes. Would that his lifetime involvement in social justice had helped to bring about a gentler and wiser country in his golden years. I and my family feel for him and how crushing it must have been to have seen things go so wrong. May his good work continue to bring forth blessed fruit in the world.

Herb was my friend for over 40 years. You always knew where you stood with Herb-there was no gray in his beliefs, his feelings, his life. He was genuine, he was committed, he always tried to help others. Herb never lost an argument, and was always ready for a fight. He taught many things to many people, and he never stopped learning. Herb taught me that when you don't get the answer you want, keep trying until you find someone who will listen. He touched so many lives around the world. He leaves behind two wonderful children, Ellen and Bruce, who between them embody all that was good in Herb, three wonderful granddaughters who light up the world, and many friends who will miss his humor and support.

My parents were neighbors of Jules and Joyce in Highland Park from 1957 to 1965 and as children my brother Philip and I were patients of Herb. I remember going to the second floor Devon Avenue office to get all my cavities filled. Even today as we drive by on Devon, I look up. My sympathies to the Hazelkorn family.

Herb became my dentist in 1958 when I was 18 years old. Over the years I (and, subsequently, my family and several friends) followed him in his practice from Devon & Western in Chicago to Skokie to Winnetka to retirement. Not only was he a great dentist; he was an inspired spirit. One of the many things I so fondly remember is signing many social justice and political petitions from the confines of his dental chair. I soon found myself a member of one of his favorite justice organizations and can still see Herb and Bobby at a demonstration in Grant Park pushing a grandchild in a baby stroller which displayed the sign "Dentist for Social Responsibility". His humour, warmth, generosity, concern for others and passion for justice made a difference in the lives of many. I feel so fortunate to have known this wonderful man.
