Henry Webster Obituary

Webster, Henry Charles 87, of Chicago, IL, departed this life on Thursday, December 29, 2011, at his winter home in Tucson, Arizona. He was born on March 10, 1924, to the late Bishop Henry Hamilton and Mrs. Ethyl Faye (Holman) Webster in Alton, IL. He was affiliated with the Webster Temple Church of God In Christ in Alton all of his life. In 1947 he was united in marriage to Katherine Thomas of Chicago, IL. He was also the proud father of three daughters. A veteran of the US Army during WWII, he was employed as a fireman in the Chicago Fire Department, retiring after 38 years and after having reached the rank of District Chief. He helped to establish the Chicago African American Firefighters Museum at 68th St and Harper in 2008. He is survived by his wife, three daughters: Karen Webster, Nicky (Phil) Scott; and Stephani (Tom) Gelsinon. He is also survived by six sisters, eight grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews. Visitation will be held at Jones Funeral Home, LLC, 3240 W. 79th St on Sunday, January 8, from noon to 8 PM. Services will be held at Roberts' Temple Church of God in Christ at 4021 S. State St. on Monday, January 9th starting at 10 AM. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the African American Firefighters Museum at PO Box 496353, Chicago, IL, 60649.
