AGE: 92 • Naples, FL

Helen H. Whitley, 92, of Naples, Fla, passed away on October 6, 2016 at Avow Hospice Center in Naples surrounded by her family. She was born and raised in Newark, NJ where she spent the first 64 years of her life. She lived in the Toms River area and Lincroft, NJ before moving to Naples in 2013. In high school, Helen was captain of her baton twirling team for the marching band. She won numerous awards and championships in bowling, softball, and basketball. She particularly excelled in basketball, where she was the "Dominicans" leading scorer and was offered a college scholarship to play.

Helen started working at American Insurance in Newark, NJ. After taking computer courses in the 1960's, she eventually went on to teach Key Punch Operating. She worked for many years as Food Service Manager at Bambergers from which she retired in 1986. She was a member of the Rosary Altar Society, a Eucharistic Minister, and a volunteer for the Vailsburg First Aid Squad. Helen loved her family unconditionally. She was predeceased by her husband, Frank X. Whitley and brother, Buddy McCabe. Surviving are her four sons, Russell; Frank and his wife, Kathy; Jim and his wife, Zenaida; and Dan. Grandchildren, Tom, Dan, and Kelly Whitley; brother-in-law, Will Leicht; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 15, 2016 from 8-9 am at John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, 115 Tindall Road, Middletown A funeral liturgy will be offered at 9:15 am, at Mary Mother of God Church, 19 Cherry Tree Farm Rd, Middletown, NJ.
