Helen Cranford Obituary

CHESTER, S.C. - Helen Chalk Cranford, of West End, died Monday, April 11, 2005 at the Sisters of Charity Providence Hospital, Columbia. Mrs. Cranford was born in Chester and was the daughter of the late Bessie Lucas Atkinson Chalk and George David Chalk. She graduated from Chester High School and the Draughon's Business School, Columbia and worked with the South Carolina Employment Security Commission for several years. Mrs. Cranford was a homemaker and active in the First Baptist Church Gleaners Sunday School Class, Media Library, Wednesday Supper Group, and was the Team Leader of the Bereavement Committee. She is survived by her son, James Brawley Cranford, Jr. and his wife, Julie Burckhalter Cranford, of Augusta, Ga.; daughter, Elizabeth (Beth) Cranford Walker and her husband Robert Bratton Walker, III of Columbia; four granddaughters, Elizabeth Law Walker of Columbia, Catherine Chalk Walker of Columbia, Courtney Marsh Cranford of Augusta, Ga., and Mer edith Helen Cranford of Augusta, Ga.; one sister, Jean Chalk Scott of Columbia; a number of nieces and nephews, and was predeceased by her husband, James Brawley Cranford, Sr. Services will be held at 3 PM on Friday, April 15, 2005 at the First Baptist Church, followed by interment at Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6:30-8 PM on Thursday, April 14, 2005 at Barron Funeral Home, Chester. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church Building Fund, P. O.
