Hazel Peters Obituary

I would love to see everyone's favorite Hazel memories. I know a few of us were recalling favorite items in her home, mine was a certain lamp that was always on the endtable in the front room. Why I liked it, I don't know - it was just always there. Several of us also shared recollections of beloved jingle bells that were brought out on Christmas. It's amazing how favorite items bring out memories and stories!



My favorite memories are related to Christmas from many years ago. I may have been young, but I remember waiting ... after snacks and carols ... for Santa Claus and Christmas. There is no instance in particular, that I recall; but I remember the laughs and feelings of family. That was great.



Unrelated to Christmas, some of my favorite memories also relate to the countless stories she had, particularly those involving people I knew in ways different then she did (like grandma (Marion, AKA Red)). After grandma's passing, Hazel joyfully shared stories that "told on" grandma and some of her "lesser known adventures". Apparently grandpa had bought an amber necklace for grandma. There was a disagreement resulting in grandma stubbornly rejecting the necklace so grandpa gave it to Hazel instead (who then passed it on to me). Those stories (especially those with harmless "insider secrets") will sorely be missed.



As the years have gone by, I've watched names fall off the annual Christmas/Easter/Birthday cards, but she never missed a beat. That's an empty space on the mantle for the empty space in my heart. Thanks again Aunt Hazel. Thanks for "caring enough to send the very best". :-)
