Dr. Hayes was a true friend of the teachers in Valley Yiew. He always greeted you by name and with a smile. He made it a point to visit your school often and would eat with the teachers ( he always had his brown bag lunch ). I often think back to the "days of Dr. Hayes" with fondness!

I was deeply saddened to read of Dr. Hayes' death....like so many of the previous entries, I also remember Dr. Hayes and his 'brown bag' lunches and actually EATING with us in the lounge. He knew my name and would say 'hello' to me. He even knew what I taught in the District. I remember it was exciting to have THE SUPERINTENDENT actually with us and talking and laughing with us.

Thanks for the Great Memories, Dr. Hayes.

My prayers are with each one of you in your loss. When I first began teaching in the Valley View district Dr. Harry was the superintendent. He was a joy to be around and truly respected by many. As the old saying goes, "You don't know what you have until it's gone." It wasn't the same without him.

I recently retired after many years in the Valley View School District where Harry Hayes was a wonderful superintendent. We teachers looked forward to his "brown bag" lunches--he ate with us in the teachers' lounge on a regular basis. Even though the district was large, he knew all of us by name, our interests, issues, and concerns. And he didn't need flow-charts, computers, or other "red tape" to do so! His compassion, concern, and common sense was a breath of fresh air. We will miss him.

Yours,

Deborah Eischen

Mrs. Hayes and family,

I am very sorry for the loss of your husband, father, and friend. He was a good man who believed in educating the "whole" child. He was very supportive of us teachers. I will always remember him bringing his "sack" lunch to our staff lounge and enjoying conversation, fellowship, and even listening to our educational complaining. He was a caring and loving man who will be remembered fondly.

Many prayers of comfort to you and your family. He will be missed.

Dear Donna and family: My deepest sympathy on your Dad's passing. As you know, I had an opportunity to work with your Dad while he was the Superintendent in Valley View. He was a very kind and gentle man. I will always remember how he would regularly visit the schools and eat his sack lunch with the teachers. He was always very supportive of both Roger and I. We both have very fond memories of your Dad. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

I WAS SO SORRY TO HEAR OF HARRY'S PASSING. PLEASE KNOW IN THE 32 YEARS I HAVE WORKED AS AN EXEC. SECRETARY IN THE VALLEY VIEW DISTRICT, I HAVE NOT HAD THE PRIVILEDGE TO WORK FOR A GREATER HUMAN BEING THAN HARRY. HE WAS A GREAT SUPERINTENDENT TO WORK FOR. NO MATTER WHAT YOUR JOB CAPACITY WAS IN THE DISTRICT, YOU WERE VERY IMPORTANT TO HIM. WE ENJOYED THE TIMES HE WOULD BROWN BAG IT AND COME TO THE SCHOOLS TO HAVE LUNCH WITH US. I TRUELY MISSED HIM WHEN HE LEFT AND I NOW SHARE IN YOUR SORROW THAT HE HAS PASSED ON.

I am deeply sorry about your loss,

Harry was a joy to work for. He used to bring a sack lunch and visit with us at our school. He'd visit my class from time to time and make a point of telling me how happy he was that I was teaching his students. About six years after he retired from Valley View, I was coaching football at Bolingbrook High School and Harry attende the game and made a point of coming down to the field to congratulate me and say hi. Not only that, but he went on to ask how each of my family members were doing by name. Wow! All you had to do was to look into those big caring eyes of his and you knew he was sincere. He was a great mentor and a true gentleman.

On behalf of the former and current Valley View School District 365U employees and members of the Board who had the honor of working with Harry during his time here at our district, we extend our sympathies to the family members. Please know that our thoughts and prayers are with you during this time of loss.

While I did not have the privilege of personally working with Harry, I have heard many wonderful things about him. It has been told to me that one of his most endearing qualities was his gentle spirit.

May God bless you and hold you in the palm of His hand.

Dear Billy, Johnny and Gail: Please accept my condolences on the loss of your brother Harry. As chance would have it, your parents are buried a few graves west of my own mother and father in St. Mary's Cemetery.

In the latter years of her life, my mother's thoughts would drift back to the old neighborhood at 76th and Aberdeen Street and of the fine people we knew back then. May Harry rest in peace.
