OUR CONDOLENCES TO YOU AND THE FAMILY FROM AN "OLD" FAMILY FRIEND - SOUTH SIDE AND NEW TRIER.

Dear Ludmilla: I can still remember the first time Pat and I came to your home on Cornell. We were both students in the teacher ed program at Univ of Chicago. Harry came home from work; we met him for the first time. Soon into the conversation, he learned I was a stenographer/typist (no computers then!). He invited me to come to apply at Schradzke, Gould and Ratner, the law firm that employed him. (Schradzke was in the picture then, although he was dead - I think.) I did go to work at the law firm and worked summers(only) for several lawyers, Ben Gould, Gerald Ratner, Jim Gibson, Sol Gutstein, Steve Crawford, a couple others whose names are gone from my elderly brain and -- Harry. Who can forget working for Harry? That he could find anything on his desk, never mind his office, was always miraculous to me. But I loved him - for his unpretentiousness, for his mentsch-ness, for his interesting self, and for the down-to-earth lawyer he was. You were so fortunate to have him for your husband and the father of your children. And,as he frequently mentioned to me, he was so fortunate to have you. What a couple. Incomparable.
A memory: When we met at the Uffizi Gallery in Firenze, you were on vacation, staying with Matteo, and we were vacationing. I said to Pat, "God, that guy looks just like Harry Coven - the one leaning up against the wall." Says Pat: "That is Harry." What a wonderful surprise to meet you, and then to have dinner together.
We have so many memories of you two. We love you forever. And Harry is in our memories forever.
Genevieve Lopardo (Pat, too.)
