Harold Bass Obituary


Family-Placed Death Notice

Richard Harold Bass, Sr., age 84, of Shelbyville, Tennessee, died April 22, 2005. He was born in Shelbyville, Tennessee on November 16, 1920, the son of Alice Kimmons Bass and Sion D. Bass, Sr. He served in the U.S. Army in World War II. He retired from over 30 years with Oman Construction Company, Nashville, Tennessee to raise beef cattle. He was a member of Fairlane Church of Christ and the Shelbyville Benevolent Lodge No. 0122. He was a beloved husband, father and grandfather. He was predeceased by his wife, Carolyn Hammond Bass and is survived by his daughters, Carla Bass of Marietta, Georgia and Mrs. Frank D. (Barbara) Boone of Kennesaw, Georgia; his son, Richard H. Bass, Jr. of Huntsville, Alabama; and his grandson, Ryan Barrett Boone of Kennesaw, Georgia; his brother, Sion D. Bass, Jr., of Marietta, Georgia; his sisters, Dr. Anne B. Avery of Nashville, Tennessee, Mrs. Ione Chapman of Huntsville, Alabama, Mrs. Opal Lynch of Denton, Texas and nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 25, 2005 at 1:00 PM at Gowen-Smith Chapel in Shelbyville, Tennessee. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service and Sunday, April 24, 2005 from 4-7 PM at Gowen-Smith Chapel. Arrangements are being handled by Gowen-Smith Funeral Chapel, Shelbyville, Tennessee, 931-684-1372.
