Gertrude Gendel Obituary

Gendel, Gertrude Huebsch born November 17, 1910, died in her home at 3500 N. Lake Shore Dr., Chicago, on the morning of February 2, 2003. The daughter of Rudolph and Minnie (Polacek) Huebsch, Gertrude attended the University of Miami, Coral Gables (1927-29), graduated from the University of Chicago (1931) and pursued graduate studies in social work. She worked for more than 25 years for the Bureau of Employment Security of the State of Illinois. Following retirement, Gertrude was active as a potter, a volunteer in Chicago preschools, a consumer advocate with radio station WBBM and in other activities. Gertrude was married to Herman Gendel from 1939 until his death in 1966. She was the sister of Maurice O. Huebsch, deceased. She is survived by sister- in-law, Thelma Lager Huebsch, her niece, Hilary Huebsch Cohen (Amrane) and nephew, Mark J. Huebsch (Mary), her grandnephew and nieces, Nathaniel, Rachel, Sarah, Rebecca and Natalie, as well as many other relatives and friends. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Southern Poverty Law Project, P.O. Box 548, Montgomery, AL, 36101-0548.
