I was 16 when I worked at Golf Mill Ford and a few when I was working as a porter Mr Gleason would walk around the dealership and even thru the service area where I was always at and he was super nice to me and everyone else that he talked to all I can say he always looked like a million dollars had a million dollar smile and just was a special person if I had to sum him up in one word it would be class and now 45 years later I can still see his smile his walk his confidence like it was yesterday I think he was the classiest guy I ever met to be honest nobody comes close I took his granddaughter to my senior prom because I found out my girlfriend of three years was cheating on me and I think her name was Patti and she was such a sweetheart so I know he passed 13 years ago or so I just found out now so my sincere condolences because Jerry is one of the few that will always be missed he was a special and rare breed , 45 years later and I can remember like it was yesterday most people were scared to death of him but I wasn´t he was like a movie star to me

When my Father died, Jerry came to the wake. He asked how I and the family were doing. When I told him that the dealership where my father worked had asked for the return of his demo twice before the wake was even over, he excused himself, and then returned about five minutes later. He said " I just called the Chevy store to tell them you might be calling and to give you as many cars as you need for the funeral." I was not even in his employ anymore. Best man I ever worked for. I was unaware of his passing till months after. So sorry for the family.

Dear Kay and all of Gerry's family, I can't believe that Gerry left all of us a year ago. So many are joining him but I ask the dear Lord to keep me here for awhile cause I am not ready just yet. I pray that his loving wife and family are well. I know that my husband Tom has been bothering Gerry to take care of my car (even in heaven). So many times I drive past Golf Mill where his place was for so long. We all have had great times with a lot of the Gleason family. May God bless "us" all. Sincerely, Marylyn Ahlfeld

Dear Kay and all of Jerry's children and family, Jerry was a sweet and caring man who touched many, many lives. I have many memories of Jerry that go way back to the days of Peirce and St. Gregory's Parish and of sitting on his parents steps on Bryn Mawr. To brother Ed and sister Margie I know how much you loved Jerry together with the late Bill and Anne Donohue. I join you all in celebrating Jerry's life. I know my late husband Tom is up there shaking his hand and saying "did you take care of Marylyn's car?" Love and prayers, Marylyn Osterkorn Ahlfeld

When I came to Chicago for Jerry's birthday party in 2009 it was one of the most memorable times in my life. The thing that made is so special, was the morning I was getting ready to leave to come back home, we were sitting in the dining area of his home eating that special oatmeal (that I have never been able to duplicate) and I said to Jerry how is married life. You know how everyone says oh! it;s good or it's fine. His reply to me was "I am the happiest married man in the world". That made my trip and makes me happy to know that he was that happy. Remember wherever a beautiful soul has been there is a beautiful memory".
Thank You

my uncle jerry was an exceptional man, to ever so many people, it's hard to imagine. he is what you'd think of as entirely honorable, a man that never broke his word, a best friend, a mentor, a very caring and committed volunteer (@ Misericordia home in Chicago--with children and adults born with Down Syndrome) and your best sales advisor. it's no wonder that country leaders all over the world invited him to visit with them, personally. he was SUCH a good man! he was the father of my son, whose blood father was and is so distant from him, not a friend, not a father as a father should be. no wonder my son hurt so badly that uncle jerry died, a few days before their lunch date, and one day before his 82nd birthday. yet, i am happy for him not to have died suffering with terrible pain, or degraded or humiliated in any way, but peacefully. and, should you remember Old Blue Eyes' frank sinatra's famous song, know that my uncle died a grateful man for having lived his life, as 'he did it his way'. we love you so much, uncle jerry. your cheerful voice rings in my ear, which i will hear every time i smile, thinking of you. be happy out there, old buddy. love from my heart to you, your niece, karen, and of course, from your pal, whom you gave so much of your wisdom and a lot of help to, so generously, my son, christopher robin (gnatz)

I worked as a porter for Gleason Chevrolet in the 90's. In '95 I decided to go back to school and get my degree but my school schedule and work schedule just didn't agree. At the advise of a co-worker, I was told to have a talk with "Mr. G" about it. At his next visit to the dealership, I did just that. And I will NEVER forget what he said. He told me; "Dan, work whenever you want and if anyone has a problem with it, tell them to come and talk to me. You just make sure you get that degree! Understand?"
After, when he would visit the Chevy dealership, I would wash his car and when I returned his keys, he ALWAYS asked how I was doing in school.
So to Mr. G -- I got my degree and I have a successful career in Aviation, a wife, a house and two beautiful children! God Bless and RIP Mr. G.

Jerry Gleason lived according to the Word of God. He was always encouraging others and would not hesitate to correct behaviour but did it in a very kind, direct, and firm way, such that you knew he was being honest and that he was right. Jerry knew Who was really in charge of life and he thanked Him on Sundays at Holy Name Cathedral of Chicago. St. Jerry pray for us to the Higher Power. "Rarely have we known . . . ".

My sympathies to the Gleason family. I have read this condolence book from first to last, and it is clearly a picture of a man well loved, respected, and admired; as well as a truely unselfish giving life.
I remember back thirty years when I was just starting my little carpet cleaning business, and every penny spent had to bring home two. I stopped into Mr. Gleason's Forest Park Chevrolet to ask him what he thought of buying ad time on Irish Radio programs. He was kind enough to take time out to advise and chat with a small time operator, such as me. I have thought about our meeting and his patient kindness, many times over the years.
I will be remembering the Gleason family in my prayers, and praying for the repose of Mr. Gleason's soul.
Oh, by the way, he said advertising on Irish Radio was the smart thing to do, and he was right. Right in the biggest of beautiful green shamrocks!
May God bless Jerry Gleason.
