Georgia Mikkelsen Obituary

Georgia Burningham Smock Mikkelsen 1913 ~ 2003  Georgia Burningham Smock Mikkelsen passed away peacefully Sept. 21, 2003 at Hales Nursing Home in Spanish Fork, UT.  She was born April 19, 1913 in Bountiful, UT, the seventh child of eleven in the family of George E. and Amelia Eugster Burningham. She spent her childhood, attained her education, and enjoyed the early years of her life in Bountiful with lots of family and friends around her. There she married Bridwell S. Smock on April 19, 1935. They were later divorced. Georgia married Elmer A. Mikkelsen April 27, 1950. Their marriage was solemnized Sept. 24, 1970 in the Manti Temple. With this marriage Georgia moved to Fountain Green, UT and took on the responsibility of caring for and raising four more children along with her own son, Shonnie. A daughter, Ruth, was born to this union. The family greatly appreciates the sacrifice, service, and loving care she has given throughout their lives. After Elmer's death Nov. 8, 1984, Georgia filled her life with loving and caring for grandchildren and great-grand-children. She loved studying the scriptures, reading, walking, baseball, Jazz basketball, and having applesauce chocolate chip cookies baked for family members who came to see her. As a member of the LDS Church, Georgia served faithfully in church callings and attending the Manti Temple. She loved the temple and deeply appreciated friends with whom she attended there. Children, Shonnie (Joyce Ann) Smock, Tangent, OR; Ruth Mikkelsen, Salt Lake City; Andrew (deceased) (Anita) Mikkelsen, Mt. Pleasant; Glen (Leola) Mikkelsen, Woods Cross; John (Betty) Mikkelsen, Fountain Green; LaRue M. Petty, Spanish Fork. There are 24 grandchildren, many great-grand-children and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by son, Andrew A. Mikkelsen and three grandchildren, Paul Mikkelsen, Raymond Smock, and Kathy Marie Smock Prettic. Survived by sister, Florence Goodman. The family extends a special "Thank you!!" to all who have lovingly shared life and cared for our mother, grandmother, and grandma-great at Hales Nursing Home. Funeral services will be held Saturday, Sept. 27, 2003, at 1 p.m. in the Fountain Green Ward Chapel, 151 South 200 West. Friends may call at the church from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Burial will be in the Fountain Green City Cemetery. Funeral directors, Magleby-Rasmussen Mortuary, Mt. Pleasant, UT.
