George Van Obituary

Van Jr., George F.

George Van Jr, 92, of Burbank Illinois, passed away in grace on October 11, 2021. George Jr was son to George Van Sr and Minnie Van (both deceased). George now rejoins his beloved wife of 62 years, Florence Van, in their eternal rest.

George Jr is survived by a large and loving family, daughter Sue Miller (husband Ron), son George III (wife Debra), daughter Sharon Duffey (husband Tim), daughter Maureen Covey (husband Steve), and daughter Angela Watson (husband Dennis). He was also survived by 8 grandchildren Jamie Daugherty (husband Nathan), Jeff Miller, Stephanie and Brittany Van, Neil Duffey (wife Brittany), Brian Duffey, Scott Covey (wife Bailey), Kristen Burritt (husband Nick) and 4 great grandchildren Natalie and Luke Daugherty, Michaela Miller, and Liam Duffey.

George Jr will be remembered as a kind, loving and thoughtful family man and friend. He always put other's needs first. George Jr committed his life to his wife and children, and their grandchildren. He also was dedicated to his extended family, his brother Ron Van ((deceased), wife Charlotte(deceased), survived by wife Cecelia); and sister Natalie Mooi (husband Ray (deceased)), and nieces and nephews. Additionally, he was the "go to" father in the neighborhood, and was a role model to so many at work and in the community.

As a veteran of the Korean War, he dedicated his life to serving other veterans and served as Post Commander at Oak Lawn VFW Post 5220. For many years, he volunteered his time to ensuring the needs and quality of life for veterans and their families in the community. The VFW honored his time spent there and recognized all his contributions.

George Jr had many personal interests and enjoyed living to life's fullest. He loved the Chicago White Sox and Bears, he loved working on cars- a passion he shared with his father George Sr and his son George III, and spent hours (reluctantly) working in the garden with his lovely bride Florence.

In short, George Jr was a proud man who measured his wealth in life through the joy that he brought to friends and family; on the things that mattered most, and for that he was a great success.

To Sue and family,
So sorry to hear about your dad. I think it is part of the mortgage agreement that when someone buys a house in Burbank, they agree to have their services at Lawn Funeral Home. Your dad lived a full, loved life. May your memories keep you warm.
