George Ogilvie Obituary
Lincoln- George M. Ogilvie, Sr. 84 of Franklin St. died Monday at Memorial Hospital, Pawtucket. He was the husband of the late Doris E. (Arden) Ogilvie.
Born in Central Falls a son of the late Alexander H.S. and Margaret (MacLaren) Ogilvie. He lived in Lincoln for the past seventy – nine years. He was a baker for Arnold’s Bakery in Lonsdale for thirty- nine years before retiring in 1973. Over the next twenty- seven years he held various positions, including United Products and as a parking attendant at the Charles Orms Building in Providence.
He was a veteran of WWII, serving the signal corp. of States 76th quarter master corp, in Guam and Sipan from 1942 to 1946. He was awarded a conduct ribbon and a Purple Heart.
He was one of the original volunteer founders of the Lincoln Little League and was active for over twenty years, starting in the early 1950’s. The Franklin Manor resides on the site of the original little league field.
He was a member of Calvin Presbyterian Church, Cumberland. He was a member and twice chief of the Order of Scottish Clans, Fraser #11 Pawtucket, as well as a member of the Caladonian St. Andrews Society and the Robert Burns Club.
He was a member of Unity Lodge #22, Barney Merry Lodge #29 and Holy Sepulchre Commandery #8 and the commander from 1974-1975. He was a member of the Pawtucket Council #2 and the Pawtucket Royal Lodge Chapter #4. He was a member of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rites Valley of Providence and Palestine Temple ANAAONS in Cranston.
He was a member of the Order of Eastern Star of New England. He was a past patron of Queen Esther Chapter#2 in Pawtucket, Royal Patron of the Harmony Court order of Amerants and honorary member of the Grand Court Order of Amerants in Ct., Ma., and Pa. He was a member of the White Shrine and honorary member of the Queen of Sheba #10 and Martha #25.
He leaves three sons George M. Ogilvie Jr., Roy Ogilvie and Lloyd Ogilvie all of Lincoln, one sister Barbara Milloy of Pawtucket, one brother Douglas Ogilvie of Cumberland, nine grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren. He was the brother of the late Alexander and David Ogilvie.
His funeral will be on Friday at 9 am from Bellows-Falso Funeral Chapel 160 River Rd. Lincoln. Services in Calvin Presbyterian Church 126 Angell Rd. Cumberland at 10 am. Burial will be in Highland Memorial Park, Johnston.
