Frederick Shimp Obituary

I was shocked and sadden to hear of Rick's death. My prayers are with his entire family. I have known Rick for many years; I went to high school with his sister-in-law in Michigan and he has been my agent since I moved to Chicago in 1986. I was just in to see him a couple of months ago and we caught up on how each other’s families were doing. Many will miss him.

I was so saddened to hear of Rick's passing. He was my agent for over 20 years. We probably talked every year or two and he always remembered things about me and my situation as if we talked every week. I always felt like I was dealing with a caring individual looking out for the best interests of his clients. My deepest sympathy to his family and friends.

Rick was our State Farm agent for about 15 years. He was always friendly, wanting to talk, and most of all wanting to help. Our family was deeply saddened to learn of the loss.



Godspeed Rick,

I'm not sure I can say it any better than those who have signed this before me. Rick was my agent since moving to Wheeling in 1981. When I got the letter, I was not prepared for how sad I felt. After all, I just did business with him. Then I realized that each time we had a business discussion or each time I need to report an accident, burglary or whatever, Rick did not treat it as a business transaction. I always felt that he had a personal concern for my well-being. That is truly a loss for me. May his family find some comfort in knowing that while here, he was very much appreciated.

I was out of town and so did not learn of Rick's passing until the other day. Although I'd only known him for the year and a half since we moved to Illinois and he became our agent, I enjoyed his good humor and always upbeat attitude. Sometimes, rather than mail in the premiums I would drop them by solely so I could "schmooze" with him. Being one year younger, he and I had a lot of the same tastes in cars and music and so such visits were like hanging out with a buddy, not by any stretch "strictly business." Yet always, Rick included mentions of his family -- the love was obvious and touching to experience.

I will miss him.

I pray that the warmth of your memories will eventually ease the pain of your grief, and that you will find comfort in the knowledge that Rick had such a positive effect on all who met him.

I am sorry to hear of your loss. My thoughts and prayers go out to entire Shimp family.

I had the privilege of working for Rick beginning in 1990. During that time Rick was not only my employer, he was also a friend. After leaving his office for another opportunity, Rick and I kept in contact and spoke quite often. He taught me everything I know about the insurance business which helped me further my career. I will always be grateful for the chance he gave me when he first hired me and for his friendship thereafter. My thoughts and prayers are with his entire family.

I was greatly saddened when I opened the letter to learn of the passing of Rick at such an early age. I've had Rick as my insurance agent for 20 years. I left him when a family member got into the business for a short time but came back to Rick without hesitation when that family member left the business. Rick was always there to work out the best plans as my family needs changed. It was clear to see that Rick was a great guy and genuinely cared for the people he worked with. My prayers go out to Rick's family during this very difficult time.

Rick has been my insurance agent for over 20 years. He has helped me repeatedly during these years and would never hesitate to go the extra mile for his client. When I think of Rick, I think of the perfect mix of caring, great competency, and integrity. He was a professional with a heart, a combination that is all too rare these days. My thoughts and prayers are with his family.

Rick was truly a wonderful and caring Insurance agent for myself and family of boys. He always had a positive and good attitude in dealing with any problems that came our way. My heart and prayers go out to you and your children. God will watch over and guide you through this difficult time of your lives.

I met Rick when he first started as an agent for State Farm in Deerfield. I spoke with him a few weeks ago and he told me he was turning 50 in a week...I am so sorry for your loss.

I am still in shock to learn of the death of Rick Shimp. I have had the honor to know Rick for over 20 years as my State Farm Agent and at one time I had worked for him. You could not of asked for a nicer fellow to know. I too insisted that my husband transfer all his insurance needs to Rick. Rick will be missed and the world a little less brighter without him in it. When I married 10 years ago, I told my new husband he had to switch his insurance company because I wouldn't leave Rick! He was always available, empathetic, and helpful. Rick was my insurance agent for 20 yrs. He always went above and beyond the call of duty, and was a genuine person. His legacy will live on through your family and the lives he touched.

Our heart was so deeply saddened to hear of Rick's passing. We knew him as our agent who made himself personally available for any service request. He also was a dear friend to my brother. May God and His angels hug you tenderly during this difficult time.

We first met Rick when he was assigned as our insurance agent,

that was 20+ years ago. He was a very caring individual and we enjoyed the relationship we shared. We truly appreciate all he has done for us and we will miss him very much. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family.

Rick Shimp was a great guy and I will miss him. I first met Rick when he joined the Wheeling Jaycees in 1986. We were involved in many activities back then and he has remained my insurance man ever since. Rick always showed himself to be a nice, honest guy and the world is a lesser place without him.
