Hey Uncle,
I was just looking at a picture of my mom, your sister Kate, and she has the same knobby knees as you!!! But you were like twins being only, exactly, 14 months apart to the day. Love you. Miss you.

Uncle, for some reason I keep hitting the wrong button and the letter I just drafted to you is not submitted. I take it as a sign. So I was buying coats and sweaters for the homeless the other day as someone I know is going into the City to pass them out on N.Y. Eve. As I shopped in this resale store, I felt you with me and remembered how you used to walk the City for miles and miles, you once told me. You told me how far one time and it blew me away. I could see you in your very dressy beige overcoat coming to family events in nicely pressed shirt and khaki pants. You sure could get spiffied up but when it came to keeping house, totally the opposite. So as I picked out sweaters and coats and even a beige overcoat for the homeless, I had visions of you over my lifetime and felt your presence with me then. I don't know why I feel there was a connection between you and the homeless. Maybe you understood their sense of loneliness and loss of family. I thank you for giving me the opportunity to grace these needy people with items of such importance and hopefully comfort. And I thank you for being such a light hearted and always interested Angel in my life for so long.

Dear Uncle,
I just received mail regarding you today. It made me deeply sad that you are gone. However, I know that you are really happy now with family and health and it would be selfish of me to want you here in the state of mind you were saddled with and the loss of health and happiness. It is all so bittersweet but it's hard to focus on the good when, like I said, I am very, very deeply sad that such a great and kind man is gone from my life. Love you.

Dear Uncle Fred,
I wrote you a note the other day but it disappeared. I was both sad and happy when I heard that you had passed. Happy for you that you are back to your old self, surrounded by people who love you.
I will miss you being at every event, your always cheerful and funny personality, your excellently timed wisecracks.
I will always remember your various unfinished homes, your love of dogs and all the thankful cats out there that you attended to.
You had a heart of gold.
Your graduating from college had a big impact on me to get my degree as well. I am so proud of how smart you were, how you entered the Navy and how you went on to work jobs using your high intelligence.
You will be missed by all those you have touched with your sense of humor. I will miss feeding you at the VA and massaging your tight shoulders and your hands that looked so much like my mom's. I will really miss looking at you and seeing so much of my mother in your face and eyes.
I am sure that with so many family members up there, that my mom is cooking dinner for you and everyone every night now.
Enjoy being home. Love you!
