Frances Goldstein Obituary

Goldstein, Frances

Fran Goldstein, 79, of Chicago, Illinois died Wednesday, August 5, 2025 at the Resurrection Medical Center in Chicago. She was the daughter of the late Wallace and Sylvia Goldstein. After graduating from Cortland High School Fran continued her education in Illinois. It was there that she fell in love with Chicago, city life, and the famed Gold Coast. The Magnificent Mile of Michigan Avenue became Fran's neighborhood for life. Early on, Fran insisted (and she had a knack for insisting) that her widowed mother, Sylvia Goldstein of Cortland NY, and her single Aunt, Estelle Smith of Syracuse NY, relocate to Chicago. Daughter, mother, and aunt for the rest of their lives never lived more than a block from each other. Fran made sure they lived their lives as a joyous threesome, soaking up all the city had to offer. She was predeceased by her husband Saul Shulman. Survived by her two first cousins Larry (Ann) Harris of Manlius NY and Steve (Michelle) Harris of Cobleskill NY, as well as a multitude of cousins. Fran never forgot the Cortland childhood she had surrounded by aunts, uncles, and cousins. Fittingly, Fran's death wish was that she returns to Cortland NY to be interment with Wally, Sylvia and an array of descendants from her Great-Grandfather Benjamin Finkelstein. Graveside service and burial were conducted on Wednesday, August 20, 2025 in the Cortland Rural Cemetery.

I'm so sorry to hear of Fran's passing. I worked for her for many years when she was in real estate. Her and Sylvia were the nicest and sweetest people. They are and always will be missed.

Fran was always a bright light when she was around. I am so sorry for her family and all her friends for their loss. I remember when she had not planned on attending one of our class reunions, I emailed her about how much she made the gathering a fun place to be. After some convincing, she made the trip. She thanked me for the good time she almost passed up. RIP Fran.
