Florence C. Brennan A familiar fixture on Elizabeth Board of Ed staff, Democratic committeewoman, 84 Mrs. Florence C. Brennan (nee Cortellessa), 84, of Elizabeth, N.J., entered into eternal rest on Thursday, Jan. 5, 2017. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral at the Leonard-Lee Funeral Home, 301 E. Blancke St., Linden, N.J., on Tuesday, Jan. 10, at 8:45 a.m. The Funeral Mass will be offered in St. Genevieve's Church in Elizabeth at 10 a.m. Interment is at St. Gertrude's Cemetery in Colonia, N.J. Visiting hours are on Monday, Jan. 9, from 4 to 8 p.m. Please visit leonardleefuneralhome.com. Mrs. Brennan was born and raised in Bayonne, N.J., before moving to Elizabeth 56 years ago. She was a secretary for the Elizabeth Board of Education in the superintendent's office for the past 45-1/2 years where she was still working up to December of 2016. She was a past member of the Rosary Society at St. Genevieve's Church, a former Democratic committewoman from the Third District of the Third Ward for the City of Elizabeth, and a communicant of St. Genevieve's Parish in Elizabeth. Florence was predeceased by her loving husband, Anthony J. Brennan Sr., in 2004; a son, Jeffrey, and her sisters, Leatrice Trass and Rose Squitieri Holzman. She is survived by her loving sons, Anthony J. Brennan Jr. of Elizabeth and Paul J. Brennan of Forked River, N.J. She was the grandmother of Paul J. Brennan Jr., Jeffrey Brennan, and Alyssa Brennan. In lieu of flowers, donations in her name to the Center for Hope Hospice, 1900 Raritan Rd., Scotch Plains, N.J. 07076, would be appreciated.
