Florence Brazas Obituary

Brazas, Florence Rose (née Milton) of Chicago and the south suburbs. Beloved wife of the late Vincent John Brazas. Treasured mother of Mark (Diane Miller), Owen (Judi), Joan (David Fredlick), and the late John (Julia) and William. Devoted grandmother of Owen (Jessica) Brazas, Elizabeth Brazas, Katherine Brazas (Dave Davison), Lindsay (Steve) Kim, Jake Coughlin, Emelia Fredlick and Vincent Brazas and great-grandmother of Hanna Brazas-Mata, Caoilinn Moran and Nolan Kim. Celebrated sister ("Cissy") of Harriett Rabiej, Veronica (Julio) Kollerbohm, William (Becky) Milton, Joan Casiano and the late Wilma Manemann, Margaret Kaminski and Marie Lennan. Cherished aunt, great-aunt and cousin to many. Friend of all who crossed her path. Passed away peacefully, under the loving care of Debbie (late Dave) Jackson. She grew up on the south side of Chicago, the second of eight children, and attended Lindblom Technical High School, where she met Vincent Brazas. They were married in 1948 and lived in Park Forest before settling in Homewood, where they raised their family for 35 years. A longtime member of the Democratic Party of Illinois, she was a lifelong advocate for workers' rights, the Equal Rights Amendment and a more peaceful world. Memorial service to be held Saturday, June 30, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church at 17951 Dixie Highway in Homewood. In lieu of flowers, donations in Florence's exquisite memory may be made to the United Farm Workers of America or Mercy Home for Boys & Girls.
