Family-Placed Death Notice Mr. Felton Leavell Rainwater, age 90, Griffin, passed away February 21, 2004 at the Spalding Regional Medical Center. Mr. Rainwater was born in Fairburn, Georgia, son of the late George Felton Rainwater and the late Verna Brock Rainwater. He formerly owned the Morrow Powell Clothing Company and the Smith-Roberts Company for many years. He was General Griffin in 1985 and had been active in the Chamber of Commerce where he was a Past President. He was on the Board of Directors of the Commercial Bank and continued to serve on the Board after the bank became First Union Bank. He was a member of the Spalding County Historical Society and the Meridian Sun Masonic Lodge #26. He was a Shriner and a member of the Yaarab Temple in Atlanta and the Griffin Shrine Club. He was a former member of the Griffin Rotary Club and was also a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Arthur Maddox Sunday School Class. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Carmony Rainwater. He is survived by his wife, Mildred Burnett Rainwater; son and daughter-in-law, Don and Barbara Rainwater of Williamson; step-sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Kay Burnett, Jr. of Griffin and Bruce C. and Gwen Burnett of Anderson, SC; two grandchildren, Susan R. and Barry Boggs and John Felton and Donna Rainwater, all of Griffin and five step-grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brothers and sister-in-law, Clyde H. Rainwater of Fayetteville, James A. Rainwater and George H. and Louise Rainwater, all of Fairburn; sisters and brother-in-law, Florie Boone and Florine Erwin, both of Union City, Moiselle and G.A. Doby of East Point; and Gensie McDonald of Norcross; very special friends, Mrs. Geraldine Ragland, Mrs. Mirenda Murphy, Mrs. Edna Leaks and Mr. James Ethridge, all of Griffin; many nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services for Mr. Felton Leavell Rainwater will be conducted Monday, February 23, 2004 at 2:00 PM at the First United Methodist Church. Reverend Hubert Flanagan and Reverend Dan Brown will officiate. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery. Friends may visit the family from 6:00 until 8:00 PM Sunday at the funeral home.
