Eugene Rosen Obituary

To the Rosen Famiy,

I cannot express how moved I was attending Gene's funeral today. I learned so much about Gene and feel privileged to have met him several times and his MOST wonderful family, thanks to my daughter Cari.

I am truly sorry that Cari could not come in for the funeral and am so moved by the family's eulogies. It was indeed enviable that his grandchildren so revered him and how lucky he was to have such such a loving wife, two great children, and such outstanding grandchildren.

Thank you for letting me into the privilege of knowing such a wonderful family.

Many a tear was certainly shed today.

With much sympathy and compassion, I remain with such treasured thoughts of you all.

Gen and family:

I was deeply saddened by Gene's passing and wish you condolonces on behalf of my family.

I will certainly miss Gene and his "joie de vivre." I always enjoyed chatting with him (sometimes in French) about old movies and foreign films, particularly French cinema. His knowledge was immense as was his heart.

He will be sorely missed.

Our sincere heartfelt condolences to you in the loss of Cousin Gene. We will always cherish our fond memories of him.

Cousin Gene was a real character. He will be remembered as one of the hardest working guys I ever met, but with a great sense of humor.

From all the times he would fall asleep in the middle of Cousins' Club meetings to the time he disappeared in the middle of a Cousins' Club get-together, filled up the bathtub and took a hot jacuzzi bath (with bubbles), and it was not even his house!

I remember visiting him one late afternoon at Gene's Poultry on the Fulton Market in Chicago, only to find the plant wide-open and nobody to be found. After checking the cooler, I found Gene face down on the cold wet floor of his office amongst a pile of crumbled papers. My heart started pounding as my mind raced, thinking he had been robbed and shot, or taken ill. Gene got tired waiting for his truck driver to return from his route, so he laid down on the floor and took a nap! His snoring gave him away.

I always admired the very special close relationship (business and personal) Gene shared with my Uncle George (and my business partner). We spoke often in the days of Gene's Poultry and Anderson Poultry, almost daily, discussing the broiler market and helping each other out with pallets of whole chickens or skids of fresh chicken wings, trading merchandise to make up inventory shortages and in emergencies when shipments arrived late. Gene was a tough negotiator.

But I will always remember Cousin Gene as a kid growing up. At Cousins' Club picnics he loved to hit flyballs to all the kids... he could sure hit a baseball!
