Eugene Higginbotham Obituary

MARTINSVILLE, Ill. — Eugene Higginbotham, 90, of rural Martinsville, Ill., died at 1:10 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 9, 2007, in Heartland Nursing Center in Casey. He was born Oct. 13, 1917, in Anderson Township, Clark County to Harry Higginbotham and Bertha Ledermann Higginbotham. He was a retired farmer. He married Mildred L. Fowler Higginbotham on Jan. 22, 1941, in St. Louis, Mo., and she preceded him in death on Sept. 22, 2001.Survivors include two sons, Jerry D. “Bub” Higginbotham of Brazil, Ind., and Larry E. “Pro” Higginbotham and wife Sheryl of Sarasota, Fla.; four sisters, Norma Wilhoit of Marshall, Ill., Eleanor Barkalow of Madison, Wis., Marjorie Moran of Cherokee Village, Ark., and Doris Jenkins and husband Gene of Silver Springs, Mo.; two brothers, Russell Higginbotham of Marshall, Ill., and Gerald Higginbotham of West Union; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; one brother, Woodrow Higginbotham; one sister-in-law, Fairy Higginbotham; and three brothers-in-law, William Moran, Rev. Gale Barkalow, and Maurice Wilhoit.He served for a number of years on the ASC Land Services Board in Martinsville, Ill. He was lifetime member of the Clark County Farm Bureau. He was appointed as Justice of the Peace in April, 1949, and served a four-year term.Funeral services are 11 a.m. CST Wednesday in Prust-Hosch Funeral Chapel in West Union with Bro. Billie Ray Ulrey officiating. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. CST Tuesday, and Wednesday 7 a.m. until service time in the funeral home. Burial is in Harrison Cemetery in West Union. The family requests that memorial contributions may be given to the Harrison Cemetery to assist with its upkeep.
