I had the great privilege of meeting Emiliano and his brother, Joe, as they navigated their way through school at DeVry University. I was always struck by his charm and good nature.
On one particular visit to the campus, another students mother came to drop something off for her daughter. The mother only spoke Spanish and was becoming increasingly worried that her daughter wouldn't have her eye glasses for school. Emiliano, upon hearing the situation, stepped from my office to assist, translated the concerned mothers request to our staff, and with a quick smile and his warm heart - he helped this perfect stranger.
I've only known Emil a very short time, but I'm certain that this is not the only time he'd lent a hand to someone in need.
The world will miss his smile.
My deepest condolences to Jessica and Joe and all of the Perez family and friends.

I frist met then SPC Perez at Fort Hood as we were preparing a unit for deployment to an early start to a war we had no idea would last so long. E Troop was from the upstate New York farm and wine country known as the finger lakes. We were joined by a small 50 man unit from the city of and greater Chicago area. Our task to make two units one from what would seem two such disparate groups of men was daunting at best. At a time when fear, egos and separation from family and loved ones was probably our largest obstacle, SPC Perez was always positive and truly pleasent to be around. His broad smile was infectious and he was genuinely a great guy. I grew to love all of these men through a special bond that is like no other. I still cherish the cubs jersey he gave to me when he came off of leave. My job as the First Sergeant was very lonely at times and I was touched by his gesture of generosity and kindness. God bless you and your family Emeliano you are and will forever be greatly missed. We will see you on the high ground.

SGT PEREZ, just a few short weeks ago you were centerstage (making us laugh) illustrating, to our Soldiers, how to help a buddy in need. I'll never forget that day. You were such a big help to the Distribution Platoon at Annual Training this year! Thanks so much for stepping in. You will be sorely missed!
I give my condolences to SGT Perez's family and friends.
SGT PEREZ, we celebrate you and your contribution to keeping this nation safe. I salute you and say THANK YOU.

Perez, it was an honor and privilege to have known you and served with you. Your positive attitude and sense of humor always seemed to make things better for everyone around you. I will always remember the good times we had together and wish that there could be more, but know now that you are at peace.

God saw you getting tired and a cure was not to be. So He put His arms around you and whispered "come to me." With tearful eyes we watched you, and saw you pass away. Although we loved you dearly, we could not make you stay. A golden heart stopped beating, hardworking hands at rest. God broke our hearts to prove to us, He only takes the best.
