Ellen Sullivan Obituary

Sullivan, Ellen M

Ellen "Putsy" Sullivan, 85, of Oak Lawn peacefully passed away surrounded by her family. She was born in Chicago, Illinois to the late Walter and Mary (Lanigan) Nitsche. Putsy was a graduate of St. Leo grade school, Longwood Academy (a "Longwood Lady" she was proud to say), and St. Bernard's School of Nursing. She worked many years as a nurse for the late Dr. Carroll in Oak Lawn.

Putsy was the loving wife to John, "Pat", her cherished and beloved husband of 62 years. Pat and Putsy raised their family in Chicago's St. Denis Parish before moving to Oak Lawn. Putsy will be remembered as a loving mother, sister, sister-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend. In addition to her husband, Pat, she is survived by her four children: Terri (Mike) Berger, Beth (late Ed) McClory, Pat (Sue) Sullivan, and Katie. She was the proud grandmother of Mary Beth (Ryan) Blake, Catherine (John) McGinty, Michael (Jess) Berger, Colleen (John) Kiraly, Meg Berger, Patrick Sullivan, and Kevin Sullivan; and great-grandmother of Maeve Blake, Madelyn Blake, Charlotte McGinty, and Ava Kiraly; and fond aunt to many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews. She was a loving sister to the late Walter (late Bonnie) Nitsche, late Paul (Maureen) Nitsche, late Larry (Mary) Nitsche, and her adoring baby sister, Trudy (Jerry) Sullivan, and a loving sister-in-law to Mike (Mary Ann), late Tom (late Eileen), late Teddy (late Denny Kay), late Sharon (Joe Knight), late Denny, Jerry (Trudy- yes doubly related), Kevin (Maureen), Brian (late Ellie), Mary Kay (Jim Quinlan), Jim (Judy), Joan (Steve Springer),and the late Joe (Judy). Family always came first. In her presence, you were welcomed and embraced. Putsy enjoyed life. She enjoyed Saturday nights out, playing cards and dominos (and winning even more). She loved her trips with her nursing school friends and trips to Florida. She loved her times at the lake – starting with Magician and Indian Lake, at Sisters Lake, MI and especially at her family home in Koontz Lake, IN.
