My cousin Betty was one of the most elegant, gracious, cheerful, and funny ladies I've ever known. Every gathering with her was filled with smiles and lots of infectious laughter. Many of my favorite childhood holiday memories are of Thanksgivings at the Thompson house, where I was in awe of her impeccable decor and especially of the beautiful daughters she raised so lovingly: Susan, Betsy, and Jan. As I became an adult, my admiration for Betty grew, especially for her creativity in her artwork. Her devotion to her sweet husband Hugh was unfailing, and her care for him in his later years was unflagging. With the passing of Betty, the world just became a bit sadder and grayer for me.

I want to express my thanks to Betty and her family for opening their homes and hearts to me over the years. To Susan, Betsy, Jan and their families, I give you my heartfelt condolences. It is surely a blow to lose such a unique and loving mother and grandmother. I hope it comforts you somewhat to know how much I personally loved her and will miss and always remember her, and I am certain that my feelings are echoed in the hearts of many, many people.
