Beth´s family (Newell´s) and my family (Grigg´s ) lived across from each other at Mozart and Sunnyside in Ravenswood Manor. It was an idyllic place to spend our youth playing softball in the street, hide and seek games in the alley, and attending birthday parties. On many summer days our Mother´s drove us kid´s to Druce Lake, north of Chicago for a day of picknicking and swimming.
We were all Cubs fans and attended many ball games acting as dedicated "Left Field Bleacher Bums", hoping the Cubs would win a Pennant.
Beth loved the Cub´s, especially Ron Santo even more so when he performed his famous "jumping side kick" after a team victory. It was fitting she became a part of Cub culture as proprietor of Murphy´s, remaining a Cub fan throughout her entire adult life.
The memories shared between our two families was as deep and meaningful as the profound social chaos of the 1960´s were to the American landscape we grew up in the midst of.
The indescribable pain and sorrow I feel for the loss of a great lifelong friend, I can only say.......Beth, thanks for the great memories and the journey we shared in our youth.
