Elizabeth " Betty" Godek

1918 - 2013 ADAMS Elizabeth "Betty" Theresa (Wojtaszek) Godek, 95, of 2 Manners Ave., died peacefully on Friday, April 5, 2013, at her home.

She was born in Adams on Jan. 20, 1918, a daughter of John and Zofia (Strzepek) Wojtaszek. She attended schools in Adams and graduated from the former Adams High School. She then went on to receive her degree as a Registered Nurse from the former Henry W. Bishop 3rd Memorial School of Nursing in Pittsfield in 1938.

Mrs. Godek last worked as a registered nurse for the Town of Adams in St. Stanislaus Kostka School and the former Notre Dame Elementary School. Earlier she had worked at the former W.B. Plunkett Memorial Hospital. In 1972, Mrs. Godek was given a commendation from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Department of Public Health for her professional response when the Town of Adams experienced a sharp uprise in the case-rate of tuberculosis during 1970.

She was a communicant of St. Stanislaus Kostka Church.

Her husband, A. Edward Godek, whom she married April 21, 1941, died on Jan.21, 1995.

She is survived by one daughter, Barbara Thurberg of Guilford, Conn.; two sons, Richard Godek and his wife, Susan, of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Edward Godek and his wife, Sally, of Australia; six grandchildren, Beth Thurberg, Deborah DiMarco, Nancy McDonald, Darlene Myers and John and Adam Godek; four great-grandchildren, Andrew, Daniel, Max and Grant, and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by three brothers, Francis, Thaddeus and Ignatius Wojtaszek; by three sisters, Eleanor Wojtaszek, Stefania Swiatek and Adele Wade, and by her son-in-law, Frederick Thurberg.

FUNERAL NOTICE: The funeral will be Wednesday, April 10, at 9 a.m. from the PACIOREK FUNERAL HOME, 13 Hoosac St., followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Stanislaus Kostka Church. Burial will follow in St. Stanislaus Cemetery. Calling hours wil be Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
