Elizabeth Anderson Obituary

Anderson, Elizabeth "Betty" (nee Wyckoff), age 89, died Wednesday, February 13, 2002, at the Presbyterian Homes after a long illnes. Married for 65 years to Carlyle E. Anderson, she was an Evanston resident and mother of five, three whom predeceased her. She was a graduate of Wellesley College '33, where she majored in Physics, Columbia University Teacher's College '34, and she was a PH.D. candidate in Physics at Bryn Mawr College when she married and moved to Evanston in October 1936. A quiet leader who enjoyed reading, swimming, puzzles, music, travel and golf, she had a radio program called "I've Been Reading" on Local station WNMP in the 50's-60's, reviewed books for groups and was the final undefeated champion on the 1950's national TV show, "Twenty One". In addition to her husband, she is also survived by two daughters, Judith W. Anderson of Chicago and Betsy A. (Charles T.) Fitzgerald of Bellevue, WA, grandsons, Charles T. (Peggy) and Christian C. (Meg Diaz) of Seattle, Timothy W. of Colorado, two great-grandchildren, her sister, Margaret W. Platten of Connecticut; sister-in-law, Gertrude A. Holm of Evanston, 12 nieces and nephews., including Philip C. (Cheryl) Holm of Evanston. She was preceded in death by her children, Meredith E., William C. and Robert D., her parents and brother, William H. Wyckoff. A memorial service is scheduled for 2 p.m., Saturday, April 27th, at the Elliott Chapel of Presbyterian Homes, 3131 Simpson St. (Golf Rd.), Evanston.
