How strange to have you gone...graduations, holidays, special occasions will not be the same. But still, you are in our hearts and thoughts. This past year was difficult for you and us alike, but your strength and courage held us together. Dad, keep us strong as we struggle through our grief. Help us to understand that life is a prelude to happiness everlasting.

When You Were Here

Special things only few will have known

I’ll always have the lingering smell of your cologne

The special memories so many hold dear

Family get-togethers only once a year

We came together on Christmas Eve night

At Grandfather’s house, his smile so bright

Always, I cherished the look in your eyes

While all the kids shouted “present time”

Never was perfect nor needed to be

You loved me for just being me

All the summer days I spent all alone

Always I knew you were at home

Rarely did I decide to stop by

Far a glass of iced tea or just to say Hi

Wasted time I could have had

To spend with one excellent grand-dad

Now it’s too late as I wipe away a tear

I’d drop by everyday if YOU were only still here

I’ll miss you Grandpa,

as will so many others.

You were very special to everyone,

in your own special ways.

I’ll see you in heaven,

some wonderful day.
