Edward McQuillan Obituary

To the entire family, but especially my White Sox patio buddies:

I am so sorry to hear about Eddie's passing. The coach was one of a kind, to be sure. But he was so much more, and I find myself moved by his passing in ways that, even now, I'm having a hard time putting into words.

I met him in the days following your mom's death, and I soon found him to be a guy, the size of whose heart seemed to be in direct disproportion to the gruffness of his exterior. And for that reason, the rest of time I knew him, little pleased me more than being able to bring a smile to big Ed's face. Because, as you know, the guy did not give those things up easily. You had to earn them, which just made them all the sweeter.

And, Mary, I know you must feel cheated in that you could have had, and richly deserved, so many more years together. But take comfort in the ones you did have and let your memories be of equal comfort in your grief.

Again, I am so sorry. I truly loved Eddie. I wish I could have been at his services to tell you all this person, but circumstances didn't permit it.

I was sorry to hear about the passing of Coach McQuillan. What memories I have of him coaching us at Mt. Carmel and winning the state championship in 1985. My thoughts and prayers are with him and the McQuillan family. God bless.

We were so sad to read of Mr. Eds passing. We grew up at Armour Park and have the best memories of Ed (aka Red Head Ed) and Bud Pattis time there. Myself and 6 brothers drove him nuts. Ed stayed in our lives over the years - even coming to my mother and fathers wakes. He was a good person and the Botica-Battaglia family (among others) were blessed to have known him.
