Hudson, Dr. Edsel 81, a long-time Hyde Park physician and mentor died recently after a lengthy illness. He was known as a tireless and caring doctor who connected personally with each of his patients. Over the years he held prestigious positions at various hospitals including Assistant Vice President of Ambulatory Care at Rush Presbyterian St. Luke's Medical Center and Assistant Chairman, Department of Medicine, Rush Medical College. Additionally, he served as Director of Planning, Community Health Project as well as Associate Professor, Internal Medicine, at the University of Illinois Hospital. He was also Medical Director, Employee Health Services at Provident Hospital. After retirement, he devoted his time as a mentor to students at Park Manor Elementary School. Dr. Hudson was a graduate of Howard University and The University of Illinois College of Medicine. He was also a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity. He was married for nearly 50 years to his college sweetheart, the late Helen Brown Hudson. Edsel Hudson is survived by his daughters, Lynn Hudson Boone and Lauren Hudson, brothers, Percy and Wesley Hudson, son-in-law, Anthony Boone, his grandchildren, Carmen and Grant Baker, Andrea Douglas, and Jeffrey Dugas Jr., three great- grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends. Memorial services will be held on Sunday, January 31, 2010 at 3:30 p.m. at Kenwood United Church of Christ, 4608 S. Greenwood Ave., Chicago, IL. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Music Ministry, Kenwood United Church of Christ.

My condolences to your family. I was an Internal Medical Resident at RPSL from 1977 to 1980 and was fortunate to be his student. His calm, steady, and caring manor has always been an inspiration to me.

Sending Love To All My Family, This is a time to Honor & Appreciate My Loving Uncle Edsel. I will always remember him and hear his Pleasant Calming voice in my head.
