Douglas E. Guilbert

Douglas E. Guilbert, Ph.D., 76, of Lynchburg, died Saturday, July 02, 2011. He was the husband of Donny B. Guilbert.

Doug was born August 26, 1934 in Mexico City, Mexico, a son of the late Victor Douglas Guilbert and the late Constance Bates Guilbert.

Doug was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He received his B.S. and M.Ed. from Lynchburg College and a Ph.D., from the University of North Carolina-Greensboro. He was a retired Vice President and General Manager, Babcock and Wilcox. He was also a retired Ethics Officer at the National Bank of Certified Counselors. He proudly served our country in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean conflict.

In addition to his parents, Doug was preceded in death by a son, Douglas E. Guilbert, Jr.

In addition to his wife, Doug is survived by his children, Elizabeth Guilbert Perrow, of Roanoke, VA, Jennifer C. Guilbert and her husband, Bobby J. Sheldon, of Burke, VA, Susan J. Guilbert, of Boynton Beach, FL, Tina G. Snyder and her husband, Jerome Snyder, Lynchburg, Kimberly C. Wright and her husband, Roger G. Wright, of Lynchburg, Kevin R. Christian, of Lynchburg; five grandsons, Brian Ore, Ashton T. Sheldon, R. Stephen Garner, John R. Chapman, Brandon L. Wright; three granddaughters Amanda Hubbard, Emily Hubbard, and Stephanie L. Chapman; and three great grandchildren, Victoria J. Meeks, Aiden Hollenbach, and Tristen Hubbard.

The family will receive friends from 11:00 A.M. to 12:00 noon on Monday, July 4, 2011 at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg. A Funeral Service will follow at 12:00 Noon with Reverends Virgil and Sue Knipp officiating.
