Santoni, Dennis J. Born August 2, 1936, died March 22, 2006. He was the founder of C.A.R.E. "Create Awareness for Responsible Environment Planning Group" to fight the proposed merchant power facility. Against all odds, friends and loved ones witnessing his long 14 year battle with renal cell cancer were amazed at his courage and his ability to keep his sense of humor throughout his struggle. He truly was an inspiration to everyone. His family always came first--never in 37 years of marriage did he think or give any thought to his own personal wishes. He retired as a managing partner of Coopers & Lybrand, enjoying his garden and becoming a gourmet chef. Survivors include his wife, Sandra (Holsinger) and two sons Dennis (Herjerica nee Hernandez) and Victor, granddaughter Madeline Irene, and brothers, Robert of San Diego and Thomas, and Jerry, nephews, Jerry Jr., Vincent and Tom and niece Megan of San Diego. He was preceded in death by his parents Evenzio (Denny) and Margaret Santoni (Castellli) of Evergreen Park. The visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Friday, March 31 at the Church of Holy Apostles 5211 W. Bull Valley Road, McHenry. The Funeral Mass will follow. Interment will be private for the family. For information call 815-385-LORD (5673). Over 30 years ago, Mr. Santoni gave a 19 year old girl the chance to change her career path. Mr. Santoni saw in her what she didn't see in herself.
I have Dennis to thank for the last 30 years of enriching opportunities that I have experienced at the Chicago Board of Trade.
