Dear Frank, Sammy and family,
I just wanted to say how sorry I am to hear of Debbie's passing. To know her was to like her, she was such a caring and considerate person, always thinking of others. She bore her illness with a quiet dignity that was such an inspiration to others. I'll miss her.

To Frank, Sammy and Deb's whole family:
I just recently learned of Deb's passing, and I want to share with you how much she meant to me. I had never met her family; I knew Deb through Strauss Oncology - first when I was going through treatment, but especially in 2004-5, when my husband, who we learned out of the blue, had metastatic lung cancer, was going through treatment. Every Friday, Deb and Art would share jokes and stories - Art's prognosis was grim (in fact today is the 4th anniversary of his death - which just intensified my sorrow over Deb's passing)but he and Deb and I would talk and laugh and share - we learned of her deep love for Sammy and we shared our lives with her. After Art died, I ran into Deb a couple of times, as I went in for follow-ups - we exchanged phones, but unfortunately I lost her number - and of course Strauss would not give me that information. I was so hopeful, as time passed, that Deb was still fighting the incredible fight - she was so brave, so determined to be there for Sammy, so kind and caring - what a loss. As I pray for Art today, I pray for Deb - and I know they are in eternal life, and perhaps sharing stories of their Sammy's (our daughter is Samantha) and trading jokes, which they did on a weekly basis. She gave me strength and I pray that you have the strength to carry on.

Frank, Sammy, and Family,
We are so very sorry for your loss. I will never forget Debbie walking across the courtyard to tell us about her cancer. She was so brave and so strong. We all knew she was very special...funny, direct, outspoken and so much fun to be around. I can't even imagine how much she will be missed. Take comfort in all the fond memories we have of time spent with her. Our thoughts are with you.

Dear Wendy, Al and Family:
We are so deeply and sincerely sorry for the loss of your beautiful sister, Debbie. I know how very close you all were and the devastating and long lasting effect will be felt for quite a while. Know that she is in a much better place and when you care and love someone so deeply her presence will be with you always. The soul is eternal and with this knowledge you can keep her memory in your own heart and soul forever. Some people leave this earth and no one remembers them but when someone is so cherished, her beautiful memory and essence will remain in you and the families hearts always. May you find comfort and know that she is not lost but has found a quiet and peaceful resting place in her husband's, son's, and your minds and hearts continually and in your prayers for your lifetime.
Much love, Etta & Larry

I was devastated to learn of the loss of Debbie. Our family lived next door to the Goldwater family in Skokie; my brother Leroy went to school with Debbie from kindergarten through high school. The very large crowd at her funeral Thursday was a wonderful tribute to her. My deepest condolences to Frank, Sammy, Wendy, David, and the entire Goldwater, Farber, and Paolillo families.

Frank, Sammy, and Family,

We are sorry that we can not be with all of you. For the short time that Debbie was in our lives, she showed strength, determination, and above all -- Love. The best lesson in life is to be able to show these qualities to others.

We will be in Chicago next week and hope to celebrate Debbie's life with all of you.

"May you be comforted with the other mourners of Jerusalem."

Debbie, our thoughts and prayers are with you on the new journey before you.

Dear Frank and Family,
I'm saddened by the thought of you without your Debbie, but am comforted by the thought that she is not gone, and she'll never be forgotten; she's just waiting for you, for all of us, on the other side. She was moved up in line, so she gets to meet God before us, (maybe so she can give him a "heads-up" about the rest of us!)
Some day, we'll all be together again, but till then, know that my prayers are with all of you. Mary Pitaro

To Debbie's family~

I am so sorry for your loss. My most sincere condolences to all of you.

Debbie was one of a kind, a fighter, a lover, a true friend... and i shall never forget her.

We were in band together in grammar school - Deb on clarinet, me on flute, we laughed often during practices together - then went to junior high together before i moved to California with my family.

We were sporadically in touch over the years but I always had love for her in my heart, and i know she felt likewise.

When Debbie heard that my Mom was diagnosed with lung cancer Jan. 1, 2008, Deb was the first one to write me with suggestions and support, giving me ideas for treatment and sharing stories of what she had been going through.

Shortly after my Mom passed away last September, i got this e-mail from Debbie, which i want to share. It meant everything to me...

"Karen, I just read e-mails last night. I am so very sorry for your loss. Unfortunately, I did not know your mom, but knowing her situation, thought about you and her often. It's hard for me, because it brings the reality home. Also, I lost my father to cancer 16 years ago. It's not easy to watch your loved one. I wish I could be there to give you a great, big hug and kiss in person. I am sending one now over the power of the universe. Just remember that I love you and care about you and even though we don't communicate all the time you are ALWAYS just a thought away all the time. I'm sending positive, healing energy to you and your family. I love you my friend, Deb"

Debbie was one of the most kind and loving people i've had the honour of calling "friend," and like all of her family and friends, i shall miss her greatly.

With love and respect,
Karen

Frank--
Deb and I have been friends since high school. We lost touch for a while, but reconnected in the past few years. My kids and Sam played in your house last year when we visited from out of town. I have great memories of going to Deb's family's house in Skokie during high school and hanging out for hours. She was genuinely nice and kind to everyone. She told me how much she loved you and Sam and how you both were everything to her.

Deb- I miss you and love you, sweetheart. You'll always be in my memories.
