Dean Barringer Obituary

Barringer, Dean age 74, of Champaign, died at 2:47 a.m. on Sunday, October 2, 2005 at home. Funeral services will be at 12 noon on Monday, October 10, 2005 at Morgan Memorial Home, 1304 Regency Dr. West, Savoy. The Rev. Scott Boyd and the Rev. Don Dillow will officiate. Burial will be in Grandview Memorial Gardens, Champaign. Visitation will from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday October 9, 2005 at the funeral home. Mr. Barringer was born April 16, 1931 in Dongola, IL, the son of Aaron and Nova Vincent Barringer. He married Shirley Womick on September 9, 1955 in Anna, IL, She survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Tina Elizabeth Cox (husband Bryan) of Normal and Michelle Olden (husband John) of Savoy; one grandson, Austin Cox; two sisters, Katherine Martin and Whilmita Jack of Albuquerque, NM. He was preceded in death by two brothers. Mr. Barringer taught at Dongola High School and Shawnee High School, and was Superintendent at Egyptian Community Unit in Southern Illinois. He served as Dean at Shawnee College and was on the staff at the University of Illinois and the State Treasurer's Office. In 1972, he ran for Illinois State Comptroller and in later years served as the Democrat State Central Committeeman for the 15th Congressional District. He retired a Colonel in the United States Air Force receiving the Legion of Merit Award. He was a member of Temple Baptist Church in Champaign, where he had served as a Deacon. Memorial contributions may be made to Temple Baptist Church, 1100 Broadmoor Dr., Champaign, IL, 61821.
