David A. Zickus Sr. was my DAD and he was the best man i ever knew. I loved him with all my heart and he was my hero. He fought a tough battle and i thank him for always being there to teach me some of life biggest lessons that only your father can teach you. I will always miss the nagging that he gave me for me to get on top of my homework and I thank him every day for it, because there isn't a day that i wake up and think "I wish Daddy was here to tell me how much i need to stay on top of my homework." The other day I just found a picture in my room of Daddy giving me a kiss right before i left for my first High School Dance! I put that one right on the wall next to my bed! He's with me every night when i go to bed! I thank God every noght for taking Daddy so that he doesn't have to suffer with anything any more, but of course i never go one day with out crying for 10 minutes because i want him back! I would give anything just to put my arms around him again and give him the biggest kiss in the world, and i know that i can't do that....but i was told once...that when you wish to touch your loved one just one more time...ask GOD to give that person the biggest hug ever!!! And I do that every night before i go to sleep!! I Love You so much Poppy and i will miss you...and in my heart you will always stay, and you will never be forgotten! I Love You Poppy!

To my best friend Christine & the Zickus family, What a year & 1/2, what accomplishments, what an impact, What a GREAT MAN! For one person to have done all Dave did for others is absolutely amazing. What a GREAT LADY for all the strength she's had thru all of this. We are honored to know them. Wishing you all the best, & may Dave rest in peace as he so deserves. Love, MerLynn & Ms.M

Last Wednesday the skies opened up and brought us warmth and sunshine which can only mean that Dave's passing, while difficult to accept, was planned by our Lord and he wanted us to know that Dave was now in a better place where every day is filled with warmth and sunshine.
I can only hope that when my time comes that my family will find comfort in knowing that I had special friendships like Dave enjoyed. I do wonder how our Lord will deal with Dave's endless banter. I think he will quickly find out that Dave's banter means one and only one thing, that he cares a great deal about certain relationships and friendships, and he will always be there as a loyal friend.
Dave you are missed already and only time will help me deal with the fact that you won't be walking through my front door and giving me grief. Rest in peace my friend.
To Tina, David, Cassie, and Cindy, please know that you are in my thoughts and prayers. Hold onto those special memories as you walk through these difficult days ahead and know that if you need anything you can call on me.
Take care and stay in touch,
Jack & Rosemary Ipjian

Dave and I worked together at Sorensen Chevrolet in Waukegan. Thursday night, before I learned of his passing, I had a couple of "Sliders" at White Castle and remembered how excited he was back then to go to the city and bring back a bag of burgers. He loved them sliders!
My sincere condolences.
