I was so sorry to hear about Darrell. My deepest condolences to the entire family. I was in USY with Darrell. Although he was a couple years older than I am, I have very fond memories of all the regional programs we attended at the same time. He always made people smile. May his memory always be a blessing.

Dear Tammy and Family,

I wake up each morning wondering how something like this could have happened. My heart and prayers are with you and your entire extended family. Darrell has touched so many lives in the short time he was with us. I will miss seeing him on the Baseball Field, Basketball Court, or arguing with my husband about some sort of sports event. I know the boys and dads will miss him at "guys night out" as well. He will always be in their hearts. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Darrell really made an impression on many of us on the IU hoops email list, and many of us who never had the chance to meet Darrell in person felt like he was part of our life in some small way -- and we're better people for it. Deepest condolences to the family on your loss...we will all miss him greatly.

To Tammy and the Children,
I know how tough this time is for you. It is absolutely incredible for me to think the people on either side of me in this picture are gone. And in the space of less than 3 months.

Tammy, I only met you one time at the Big Ten Tournament but it seemded I knew you from my talks with Darrell. Darrell certainly loved you and the children. That was so evident in our talks.

Darrell so enjoyed his time with Elliot and those Washington Redskin games that they shared.

At the time I really appreciated Darrell making time to meet me in Dallas for the Texas Tech-Iowa game. Little did I realize how special that time together would be. Neither of us should have been away from work, but we did it anyway. And what a great time we had. I will cherish that time with Darrell as he was being there for me after Kathy's death. I only hope that I could repay that honor to Darrell in helping you and the children in some small way.

We will certainly miss Darrell and his incredible posts to our IU list.

May God Bless you and the children.

Tammy, I feel I know you and your children even though we've never met face to face. Darrell told me so much about you. It was great to get to know him, first through the IU email list, then as a person and friend. He was respected and loved by a lot of people. I miss him desperately, and I pray for the best for you and your family in the future. We are all better for having known him.

Tammy,

I feel so much sadness in my heart for all of you. I am at such a loss for words. To think about what you, Elliott, Jennifer and Garrett must be going through, well, I cannot imagine. I wasn’t blessed with the opportunity to spend a great amount of time with all of you but what I did spend will always be remembered. Especially the heated debates between the Cubs and the Sox…. well, that memory will always bring a smile to my face. Go Cubbies (had to throw that in for Darrell, even though I’m a Sox fan :-). May G-d’s everlasting love provide you all with the strength you need. Although his time was short, his legacy will always be present. Elliott’s words said it best “(I) will miss him very, very much”. His entry truly touched my heart. May G-d touch all of yours. You’re in my prayers. G-d Bless!

Darrell was an old friend whom I'd lost touch with over the years. I wish I haddn't. When I heard of Darrell's passing, I pulled out one of a few dozen copies I still have of an old USY yearbook his sister and I made back in 1983. The pictures were there of Darrell and Eddie and Sean and Adam and Bennett. I wish times could be so simple again. My best to the family.

Tamara,

We don't know each other and I haven't seen Darrell in years. We played on the BHUSY basketball team when we were both in high school. I am deeply saddened to hear of his passing. I have described Darrell to my family as "an incredibly nice guy" which is what he was. Many could learn from that. Please accept my condolences.

Tammy,

Darrell was what so many of us aspire to, a wonderful father and someone who set a great example for others.

I can't remember the last time Darrell called me 'Rick' or I called him 'Darrell'. For both of us it was always preceded by 'Coach'.

His memory will live on in all the other 'coaches' we know and love and who have committed themselves to their kids and the community.

To Darrell's family, I am very sorry for your loss.

Like others, I got to know Darrell through an Indiana University basketball e-mail list. Then I got to spend time with him when the Big Ten Tournament came to Chicago. I considered it a privilege to be friends with someone as passionate about everything as Darrell was.

Dear Tammy,

I am so sorry for your loss. Darrell was a great man. I remember when I first met him in October, 1994 after Lisa and I started dating. Ellott was 2, and you were pregnant with Jennifer. I felt that the two of you were checking me out for Lisa, and she took your advice. Darrell lead the Jewish dancing at Lisa and my wedding. We are reminded of his enthusiasm when we watch our wedding video.

I will always remember Darrell's sweet smile and firm handshake. His true spirit and soul will be with us for many generations to come. My thoughts and prayers are with you, your children, and your and Darrell's entire families.

If there is anything our family can do for you, please don't hesitate to ask.

Darrell was a great guy with whom I shared a love for IU basketball and a respect for Coach Bob Knight. I have known him via email for years, but had the pleasure to finally meet him 2 years ago when we attended the Big 10 turnament in Indianapolis. I enjoyed every minute of the time he and I shared with our other IU pals. I am selfishly saddened that I won't be able to argue and tell sports stories with Darrell, but more so for the loss his family faces. I wish God's blessings on them.
